With the "presentable" version done, one might ask what's next for this project? The answer is well, a lot.
While the game right now is playable, I don't think it is at a place where I would feel good calling it completed yet. There is still so much I want to add to it, here are some plans of what we are hoping to release on the next major version of the game:
1- A New Difficulty, A Proper Challenge
Right now, Project Timeloop is a game that you can finish by just playing it enough times, enough healer ships and you'll eventually heal enough to get to finish the stages, you'll get less points of course but some people don't care about their score and yet still want a challenge. We will make a new version of the game that will limit the amount of iterations you can have in the game, making you use different ships and try to take more risks, killing more enemies, grazing more bullets.
2- More Ships:
Right now we realize that the ships we have are relatively basic and don't convey the self-collaborative feeling our game is supposed to have very well. The Damage and Tank Ships don't even directly interact with other iterations for the sake of simplicity. We have ideas for new ships that we will reveal in the following weeks that will make more use of the games mechanics
3- Grazing
A lot of schmups, to make the players take more risks and stay closer to the bullets have an advantage, sometimes, in the case of touhou this is mostly for scoring (which does eventually give you lives or allows you to play the last word) but in some games the actual progression to the fight is tied to how well you can graze like in Deltarune. In the newer version your specials will recharge the more you graze bullets, we hope this will make some attacks more interesting.
4- Unlockables:
The new ships will be mechanically more complex than the currently existing ships, so throwing them to the players is probably not the smartest idea, which is why we will lock them behind progression, don't worry, we don't plan to make them too hard to unlock.
These features are almost guaranteed to come, maybe one day I'll talk about features that aren't guaranteed to come.
