Not really a progress update, haven't really had a chance to make any progress on, anything, but I felt sentimental, and wanted to share just kinda what makes World of Freaking Goo special to me in a way only it and the original FNaFb Trilogy Capture
There's a very big reason I didn't swap out Freaking for Fucking when doing the entire series revision, To change the title makes World of Freaking Goo stop being World of Freaking Goo, these four words meshed into a vaguely competent sounding title have become both infamous within this very community but also just, any other title, including times when I wanted to take World of Freaking Goo past being a Fan-Game and into something bigger than that, but I could never toss away the title, what was both creative self censorship to avoid my parents finding out and also me bored of all the fnafb fan games out there just blindly putting in a swear in their title, It's stuck around for nearly 6 years at this point, and I don't think I can just toss it away now.
World of Freaking Goo, at least as it is now, is me doing my best to try and capture what made the original FNaFb trilogy so special and interesting to me when I first discovered it via mark's letsplay as a child, A witty, funny, but also extremely clever game based on something I was interested in, in a medium I was way more interested in, JRPG's, or just RPG's in general. Now, I love World of Goo alot, and I'll be honest I was never thinking while playing it "God I fucking wish this was an RPG instead" but the idea of a FNaFb World of Goo game was one that always excited me, combining two things that I adored so much into one was something I, stupidly hoped would already exist, but obviously didn't.
At this point in time I never felt capable enough with the RPG Maker I had at the time, which was XP, because it didn't have the tools to design a game I visually or even gameplay related, really wanted to make in regards to a FNaFb World of Goo, No Party Members following the Leader, A Battle UI that didn't match what I wanted visually, the ability to have more than four active battlers, Tools to make custom sprites (not really on XP but, it was a reason behind me never making the game). Sure, I would eventually get RPG Maker MV, which would've almost perfectly been able to do all I wanted (and even knew it COULD long before I even thought about WoFG MV/GBC) but It didn't feel right to my middle school mind, and thus when I saw there was a free version of VX Ace, I tossed aside both RPG Makers I paid money for for a shitty demo version of the RPG Maker FNaFb had used. all because it allowed the game to look the way I wanted it too.
If you're ever wondering why the hell World of Freaking Goo (VX Ace Lite) and World of Freaking Goo 2 (VX Ace Lite) were unironically made in VX Ace Lite, that's your answer, and yes I'm serious every Chapter, every new addition, new advanced skillset, all of it, was done within the confines of Lite, even if I don't think World of Freaking Goo 2 (VX Ace Lite) is a very good game, and is the weakest of anything with the title "World of Freaking Goo" from a technical standpoint to me at least I'm still impressed with how much I got done with it, It matches the style and competency World of Freaking Goo 3 (VX Ace), despite its limitations of being made in a demo version of a game making software, World of Freaking Goo (VX Ace Lite) holds a special place in my heart, despite it not being a very good game, it's functional, and made out of love for both FNaFb and World of Goo, even if I'd say it... really doesn't do the best job at either of those things today as World of Freaking Goo does.
World of Freaking Goo 3 (VX Ace) was, honestly a big stepping stone for the series, as my friends basically just threw me a cracked copy of VX Ace to use LOL, if you're wondering why both World of Freaking Goo 3 (VX Ace) and Freddy Bus have fucked up Enemy letter indicators, or why Freddy Bus is even IN Japanese at times, that's because, that's just how the crack defaulted all of it LOL. But it being in one complete package, imo wasn't really utilized, it still hard stuck to how the previous two games did it, just in one package instead of multiple downloads due to VX Ace Lite Limitations, the only real improvements is that if you chose to keep playing a story for its entirety when a chapter ended you could just keep playing to the next chapter with all your items, and you could sort of do a "New Game +" adventure with all your stats and equipment, along with the unlock-able boss rush modes that were designed to do just that but without any of the story, just pure boss beatdowns. The issue is, exception to Vile/Ivy (Both "4th" Stories in VX Ace barely tie into the big plot the other three stories are apart of, Vile dies, wakes up, gets pissed, and then dies again and Ivy's Story literally takes place a full YEAR after the events of 3VX so it doesn't even crossover at all, honestly a downgrade despite being more content rich than vile's story) Unless you're constantly swapping between each story's chapters (Like how I was MAKING the game...) and just hard stuck to one story and didn't leave it the final Chapters would be ridiculously hard as the other two characters stories you neglected would be at level 1 for the final bout, but what It tried to do, is still really cool to me, I do like how literally everything is occurring at the same time, and that the stories to crossover
I don't really know what inspired me to do a MV remake of the VX Ace games, but I do know the driving force was to make an actually good game, and to be honest with my skill level at the time, MV wasn't a bad showing, it had a decent amount of plugins in it and some neat ideas, and some fun visual flair, it just... really wasn't fully there yet, only common had a custom sprite, the game was still "full party of 6!" and not the now "gameplay defining" Party of 4 Party builder World of Freaking Goo is now, alot of the skills were unbalanced, it was a good showing of how far I had come as a creator and breathed life into a game that really needed it, but there's a reason that I don't keep World of Freaking Goo MV up anymore, World of Freaking Goo Gooball Collection exists, which over it's long development cycle, having remakes of the other World of Freaking Goo Games at the time (even if World of Freaking Goo 3 (VX Ace) never got finished, it was so close to at least the main story being finished, Common's Story and Pixel's Story were fully complete and Act 1 of Tele Common's was finished) with a bonus game taking place at the same time as World of Freaking Goo 2 GBC to give Tele Common some more backstory, it's literally in the name, Tele Common's Mystery Backstory after all, but so much additional polish was given to all games, updated graphics, better balanced skills, new plugins, a refined battle system around Team Building (Even if World of Freaking Goo 3 GBC and Tele Common's Mystery Backstory didn't take advantage of that...), so many unique ideas, both story and gameplay wise, while also keeping that original story intact while retelling it in a more engaging way. I still love GBC, it is one of my most proudest works, 5 Complete games (counting the stories as games because holy fuck they were) and 1 unfinished one (Tele Common's Story), I'm sad it never got finished, but I'm also glad It didn't in a weird way, else I don't think I'd get a chance to engage with World of Freaking Goo how I want to, to properly get to retell World of Goo as a FNaFb Fan-Game, or hell, even get to properly realize why I enjoy FNaFb so much, I might still like GBC, but it isn't exactly what I'd call a good FNaFb fan game. World of Freaking Goo fixes this and does so much more.
I have so many ideas for it, World of Freaking Goo 2 once it's done, and some really fun ideas for a "World of Freaking Goo V3" once that's done, to neatly tie up World of Freaking Goo as a Trilogy, It just feels right for it to be one, a Duology doesn't feel right for this. I'm not sure when all of this would get to exist, World of Freaking Goo isn't even done itself and it's arguably the smallest of the three games, but I'm excited, confident, and looking forward to making a passion project of mine come true.
World of Freaking Goo to me fills what some other FNaFb fan games can't, Passion for the source-material and passion for what made FNaFb really click. Not saying that other devs aren't passionate for FNaFb like I am, or they don't know what made it special, or that you'd even have to adhere to what it set out to do in your fan-game, that sorta removes the fun of making a fan project in the first place, but I really don't see that same sort of passion I've put into World of Freaking Goo into say, Super Fucking Mario Bros. I know I'm not the only successful person to make a FNaFb Fan-Game without the FNaF, but I've still really yet to see anything that captures what drawed me to this series nearly 12 years ago, not to say all of what I've played from this community is bad obviously, Krick is such a talented developer and his love for FNaFb can really be shown in his work, but he also brings his how, distinctly unique charm and fun to the experience that I enjoy so dearly and love getting to play whenever they drop, something that I obviously want to do with World of Freaking Goo but, I dunno, I don't want to act like I'm the best FNaFb dev cuz i'm evidently not even close to that title, or want to come off like I'm downplaying others games or even trying to say that people don't get what makes FNaFb click, but There is a handful of games out there that... miss the mark for me, but that's also just my opinion, iI doubt you were gonna take the World of Freaking Goo's Dev's opinions as your own in the first place but, I just want to make sure that people know I'm not trying to imply superiority, I'm just creating something I've wanted to be made for a long time a reality, If I could show my past self this game, I'm sure they'd be ecstatic as hell, and even more so if they knew they'd go onto make the game themself.
I love World of Freaking Goo, I used to hate it, but I could never hate something that holds such a special place in my heart, same with Five Nights at Fuckboys.
I hope to have more to show for the actual game itself the next time you hear from me, but thanks for reading this long little ramble about World of Freaking Goo
