I’m pretty sure that for those of you who have played Solar Facts will ask yourselves, “Where the heck is Pluto.” Well, I have a reason for that, and no it’s not because Pluto isn’t a planet anymore.
Truth be told, I really wanted to include Pluto in this game. (I mean c’mon it has a stinking heart on it!) but I was really worried about giving Pluto the true treatment it deserved. You see the textures I used for the planets were flat maps provided by NASA, this way the surfaces were as authentic as possible. Pluto, however, doesn’t have a flat map yet. Therefore, the best I could do is use a 2D billboard image next to the 3D models or do a terrible attempt at texturing Pluto which is not my greatest skill.
So that is reason why you don’t see Pluto in this game, however, that doesn’t mean I’m just going to forget about. I have a plan to create another Solar Facts surrounding the topic of the Kupitar Belt. Not only will this new game give Pluto a proper aesthetical theme, it will discuss the other dwarf-planets.
In other news, this is officially the launch of Solar Facts. Please let me know if you like this game, even though the term game is kind of stretching it for this particular instance. I’ve never attempted anything like this before, and I’d like to find ways to improve this format, so if you have any feedback send them my way I’d really like to hear them.
