Hi everyone,
Our development team recently discovered that one of our modellers had been providing us with models that were purchased online rather than being custom made. The modeller never made us aware of this, and all of the other members genuinely believed that this was original work.
Although these models were legally purchased and available for commercial use, they were assigned specifically to the modeller, and not me (or Scott), meaning they are completely unusable for POPGOES Evergreen. The fact that the modeller even shared these models with me and the other members is technically illegal, as it breaches the terms of the license that he paid for. Though, none of us knew this.
These props were used in the Kitchen, and in one other room that hasn't been revealed yet. And unfortunately, because of this issue, we are going to need to remake a lot of the Kitchen from scratch to ensure everything is completely original. I have taken down all images of the Kitchen to ensure nobody is misled by how it looks, and we are in the process of deleting every file that the modeller provided us.
The modeller involved with this did create some original content, and is more than capable of producing some high-quality stuff, but we have decided to part ways with them nonetheless, as the amount of original content that they did provide is very small (especially compared to the other members of the team), and we are prioritising a very small credits list (to keep things as simple as possible, legally and professionally). All of their content will be removed, and their name won't appear in the game (or on this page).
We have brought back another modeller, who you may know as Vitch, to help out with recovering these models, creating new replacements to fill in the gaps left behind. Vitch left the team last year due to motivational and technical struggles, but things are back on track now. He, Garrett and Emil will all contribute in ways they can to ensure the Kitchen, and the other room, are finished asap. When the Kitchen is finished, I will share a new image of it.
We're all quite stressed out by this, but rest assured we will get things back to normal. I think we're lucky that this issue was discovered so early on, because if this was never noticed, we could have gotten into some serious trouble.
Long story short: A lot of the Kitchen (and another room) will need to be remade from scratch due to some unforeseen legal issues.
We are still on good terms with the modeller who made this mistake, and we are simply trying to move on and continue development. I encourage that you all do the same, and simply wish the current modellers the best as they work extra hard on fixing this, for all of you guys!
Thanks for reading, and I'll keep you all posted.
