Why Welcome to Tubbyland was canceled.

Never planned on publicly talking about this until now. Why? With the recent spotlight that's been put under us, we've noticed an increase of people asking us to remake another fangame, make more fangames, etc. The short and simple answer is: No thanks.

The way we see it, the story of Welcome to Tubbyland's development is a perfect example of why we're planning to move on and why we are refusing to continue with any more remakes we deem irrelevant to our career. So, to give you guys an explanation, we're gonna talk about it.

Welcome to Tubbyland was planned to happen before we even released FNaTI. Our former soundtrack composer was a huge Tubbyland fan and she had ideas and concepts to reboot Tubbyland in the same fashion that we were doing with Treasure Island and (eventually) Chuck E's. At the time without thinking, we took the project under our wing and started fully fleshing out the ideas. Right off the bat, the team didn't really enjoy the original concepts of FNaTL and decided to completely change it.

In hindsight, this was probably a bad idea because unlike Chuck E's and FNaTI, there were already 3 games with established lore to which many people in Tubbyland's community were already attached. When we announced Tubbyland for the first time, no one, not even our Discord seemed interested in it. It wasn't until then we learned that the community for that game was incredibly small and really only focused on nostalgia, as the original concepts for Tubbyland were incredibly dated and not cared for by the majority. The FNaTL community, understandably, was not happy with the directions we were going in. At least from what we can tell, especially considering the recent remakes of the games that have chosen to completely ignore our contributions to the franchise. Hell, our game isn't even mentioned on the Tubbyland wiki, despite us revealing everything about it.

We were working on a disowned game, and the pressure of that started to reflect on our team. It did not help that during development, the team member that wanted to originally make the game had left, forcing other people to take over. I (Nocturna) was forced into directing the game when I didn't even like the original games. I hate to admit it, but I was only working on the game at that point for clout, and to honor my former friend's wishes.

The team that was assembled to work on the game also started to feel distaste towards the game and its plans, with us having to constantly change the graphics, attempt to remodel our character models, it was evident that certain people on the team were not happy with what we were doing. There was even a point where the focus of a team member was given to a fan-made side project they were working on rather than working on the game that was a legitimate entry to the franchise.

This ultimately piled up, and it overwhelmed me. Without giving a proper explanation to the people on the team, I cut the plug and asked that what we were doing not be continued. I was fond of the story I wrote for the game, and some of our concepts, but that was not enough in my opinion to continue the development of the project, especially considering my motivations.

While this isn't the full in-depth explanation, this is why Tubbyland isn't and will not happen, and why we probably won't remake any more random fangames. It's just not as fun as it used to be, and when we do end up remaking up a fangame, it's only because it personally interests all of us and it's actually something we WANT to make. Unfortunately, everything we wanted to remake has already been taken care of, and we don't really care for anything outside of what we already did, no offense to everything else of course.

So yeah, there's the explanation. I really felt bad having to cut the plug on Tubbyland, especially considering there were some people looking forward to it. I don't like letting people down, and I'm sorry that I did that to you all. Hopefully, you all can understand.

Thanks.
