Winter Catch-Up – February 2026


What's up? It's been a while...

The last time you heard from us, I had released a Development Report in September of 2025 (sheesh, time flies!) after PLASM FUNKIN' appeared in FUNKKAST. Since then, you probably realized that the whole "there will always be a report every month" schedule didn't work out.

For a multitude of reasons development had been stagnant and way slower than expected — Which forced us not only to focus on pushing the mod forward, but to avoid making reports that didn't have any substance to them.

This is where today's "Winter Catch-Up" Development Report comes in — It's not only a progress update but an insight what we have been cooking up.


Hold On- Brief Recap!

We covered a very good chunk of PLASM FUNKIN' : Spotlight Update's scope in the August Development Report, I addressed how we're going to have two weeks featuring "Ghost", and previously revealed "Toska"

A month later I released the September Development Report, mentioning our appearance in FUNKKAST and a rather bothersome decision... (Let's just say that FPS Plus was not made for complex modding)
SO. We are never changing engines ever again... Ever. The entire mod is built with Psych Engine, very crucial backend parts of it was changed for our goals within the scope of the project, which means that when you play PLASM FUNKIN' it'll barely look like you're playing the original engine!

As expected, most things you saw in the previous Development Reports are 95% outdated. It's not without reason teasers of mods always make sure to say whatever is shown isn't the final product!


Where was PLASM FUNKIN' !?

I'll be quickly transparent and mention that the reason why development had been slower was due to me having mental/personal problems that persisted ever since the half-way point of 2025 (Yes, even before the first Development Report!)

These issues affected productivity in the Art Department, combined with the fact that it was the Holidays and New Years, everyone got busy and things were just being ever so slowly done.

A big incident was that one of our two coders had to be inactive for personal reasons, and for management control I made sure to hire two extra coders.

Our biggest challenge wasn't adding levels or sprites, not even art or animation, it was the fact that the entire mod will have custom menus and you need coders for that (plus, y'know, having barely two coders for a full-feature mod would never come out as soon as it is now)

So... WHAT'S NEW ?!

Let's not beat around the bush, we'll go over the juices of PLASM FUNKIN', firstly let's talk about general features:

  • Custom Menus (for everything!)

    • Story Mode and Options Menu are Implemented;

    • Freeplay and Arcade Menu are being worked on;

    • and Pause Menu is almost Implemented.

  • Achievements and Completion system!

    • The Achievements Menu is Implemented;

    • There are currently 31 Achievements that you can get in-game, and more to come with new updates!

    • The Achievements are separated into sections related to different parts of the mod. Some of them are challenges to people who aren't curious enough.

  • Soundcloud (possibly, YT Music + Spotify) Albums!

    • PLASM FUNKIN's OST will be released in all possible platforms.

    • Please remember that this will cost me a bit so if there is no Spotify OST release, just download our songs or something lol!

Alright, these are all general things you can expect from the mod. But what about the Friday Night Funkin' part of it? Allow me to go over the playable features of PLASM FUNKIN':

  • Story Mode: "Ghost" Week

    • Week Intro Bumper (similar to Funkin' Remnants)

    • Features "Translucid", "Exorcism" and "Starlight"

    • Extra Freeplay Song: "PEACE"

  • Story Mode: "Toska" Week

    • Special Week Intro Bumper

    • Features "Tomboy", "Twist!" and "JEEZ" (all songs except Twist! by MarkedAman)

  • Arcade Showdown: Extra Songs

    • Neon Passage - Yume Nikki Song

    • Nebulapolis - Ristar Song

    • Willow' Groovin' - Sonic CD Song

TOSKA

While I can't show too much of what's to come, there are multiple teasers of her scattered across the MRK Community Discord Server including both our Twitter Page and MarkedAman's.

Sit down with me.

It has been a blast working with the team regardless of the high and lows, this whole project took a huge part of my life and will continue to do so. Don't take this in a bad way, it's like I took a piece of myself and put out there, where maybe you could be interested in checking out.

I'm getting older, there's college coming up, and despite announcing that this mod will have multiple updates with 4 Weeks, there's no guarantee I'll be able to continue working on it.

All of the private support I've been getting is something I can never be thankful enough for, and I'll continue to fight for this mod to thrive in this community. Because this is a genuine love letter to the Friday Night Funkin' modding scene and all the mods that influenced me through these years.
