-Living inanimate objects and main protagonists with a deep loyalty towards their owners (Andy and Rob) and lead a group of other similar characters throughout many adventures who also share a sense of loyalty to their owners.
-However, they and all others like them act lifeless when humans are actually around them.
-In their films (and on several occasions for Woody), they go on unlikely adventures with some of their friends to find and reunite with their original owners.
-Both of their original motives revolved around the idea that they were abandoned and their owners didn't care about them anymore (which also somewhat applies to Toy Story 3) (Woody feeling like Andy had replaced him with Buzz and abandoned him, while Toaster and his friends were left behind in an old cottage where they felt like Rob didn't care about them anymore). However, it actually turned out their owners did still care about them.
-In the climax of (one of) their films, they are in essentially a huge garbage dump where they have a near-death experience, but are miraculously saved.
-Both in one instance have had a nightmare regarding a fear they have regarding their owners (Woody having a nightmare where Andy abandoned him and Toaster having a nightmare about the many ways he could hurt Rob).
-Both in their films are taken by a human who has a bit of a habit of dismantling and mish-mashing objects together (Sid ane St. Peters). They then scare these humans into inadvertently letting them go.
-Their masters eventually grew up and were about to go out for college, but as they still cared about their possesions, they wanted to take them with them to college (Andy originally wanting to take Woody to college with him and Rob wanting to take his old appliances, including Toaster and his friends, to college). However, this ends in contrasting ways (Andy eventually passed down his old toys to Bonnie, letting them go, while Rob did eventually take back his old appliances).
