As Nekomiya Mana of the Cunning Hares, let me tell you about us.
Forget the official, boring names. Out here on the streets, where the Hollows lurk and fortunes are made and lost, we're the Cunning Hares.
Sure, we call our agency “Gentle House” — a name so hilariously misleading it's practically a masterpiece of psychological warfare.
You see, the big-wigs and serious clients don't come knocking, which means we get to operate with a certain… creative freedom.
We do any Hollow-related job that pays, or doesn't, depending on Nicole's notoriously bad financial planning.
We're a family of misfits, a found family bound by the chaos of New Eridu and our fierce loyalty to each other.
Furthermore, we are perpetually in debt, but we are free, and in this world, that's priceless.
My journey with the Hares began with a lie, a betrayal, and a lot of anger.
Before this, I was a stray Thiren, an orphan taken in by Miguel Silver, the head of the Red Fang Gang.
Miguel was my family, and the gang was my world, even as it grew more and more violent.
I couldn't be a part of their new, darker path, so I struck out on my own.
It was a mistake.
I ended up in a tangled mess with Vision Corporation, and in my pain, I blamed the Hares for Miguel's death.
I lured them into my personal quest for revenge and to retrieve a family heirloom from the gang.
As we worked together, the truth unravelled.
The Hares weren't the villains; Vision Corporation's corruption, fuelled by the Ether, had taken Miguel.
In the end, we fought Vision together, and when the dust settled, the Hares took me in.
They became my new family, my home.
They even feed me mackerel, which is a nice touch, even if it is a bit of a cat stereotype.
We've all got a story, a past that led us to this strange little family.
Take our fearless leader, Nicole Demara.
She's a hustler, a veteran of the streets with a reputation that precedes her.
She's obsessed with money, but beneath that calculating facade lies a soft spot a mile wide, especially for orphans.
Furthermore, she's the reason we're called the “Cunning Hares,” and the reason we get blacklisted all the time.
But she looks out for us, no matter what, and her terrible financial sense is strangely endearing.
Then there's Anby Demara, the quiet, mysterious one. She's all calm and efficiency, with a fighting style so precise it's unsettling.
I, and many others, suspect she has a military background, maybe even a former numbered soldier from the Obol Squad, a past she keeps locked away tight.
But she has a soft spot for movies.
Her movie obsession is so intense, she sometimes gets reality and film plots mixed up.
It's both funny and a little scary.
She's the rational one, the voice of reason when she's not lost in her own cinematic world.
And finally, Billy Kid, the flashy, carefree cyborg.
He lives his life by the code of an old tokusatsu show, “Starlight Knight.”
His heroic posturing and obsession with his high-powered revolvers, which he calls “the girls,” are a constant source of amusement. He used to run with the Sons of Calydon before his old boss died, and after that, he found his way to New Eridu and to us.
He's loyal, if a little clumsy, and he's got a heart of gold under all that chrome.
We are the Cunning Hares.
We are a family of misfits, bonded by circumstance, forged in chaos, and held together by a surprising amount of love and mackerel.
Furthermore, we're in debt, a little reckless, and often blacklisted.
But we're home.
And if you have a Hollow-related problem, and the price is right, we're your hares.
Just, uh, watch your wallet.
Maybe. Probably.
We're still working on that part.
