As Five Nights at Freddy's lost its way?

Why do FNaF fangames with good graphics and insane animatronic design suck when it comes to gameplay, but fangames with horrible graphics and basic animatronic design, have the most enjoyable and refreshing gameplay ever? Something is not right.
