This is the prototype for a project that I am tentatively called Zen Danni. The final game that these series of prototypes will contribute to will draw inspiration from Mega Man, the Avatar series of cartoons, and Metroidvania games. As the player, you will acquire powers from various "zen masters" which will give you control over the forces of nature. I intend on porting the final game to my Alkterios Games account and a master version to Wii U.
In this prototype, I am working on the meditation float mechanic. I am looking for feedback on how to improve this particular mechanic. As you can see from the game status (upper left), there is a short delay between float cycles. I want it so that the player can immediately proceed to float as soon as one cycle ends and they press space again. This would allow the player to float multiple times in a row. Any feedback would be appreciated. The game "code" can be found in this folder: http://derekrumpler.com/90DayDev/09/gamecode/
(Note: You will need Construct 2 to open the file)
This prototype is inspired somewhat from my Perfect Pitch demo (http://gamejolt.com/games/other/8-perfect-pitch-prototype/36739/). In that demo, someone remarked that focusing on breath was frustrating. I wanted to try to carry that feeling over by getting players to focus on the act of meditating. Ideally, the mechanic in this game would have the player focus on the timing (and other things, such as character animation) to be able to float multiple times in a row. Waiting too long could result in death.
Obviously, this is a prototype, so there will be some bugs (such as collision bugs) and other things (such as the visuals and level design). I am focused on trying to fix the mechanic, so any feedback would be appreciated.
Normally this would take me a day, but I've struggled with fixing this mechanic a few days. I will try to fix it by tomorrow and hopefully add another new mechanic for my next prototype. I'm envisioning a mechanic that will serve as an upwards jump. I might also make it possible to combine powers to do other things.
