It would be required that you play the original game before playing this game in order to understand the lore better.

This, is Duality, originally known as Borderline, same premise, same story, but the title is different. And so is the new cast of characters (somewhat).

The world that we once knew ceased to be a long time ago. All life that had previously dominated within this plane disappeared without a trace. The wasteland stretched far and wide, those whom had survived knew nothing of the cause, and they only sought to rebuild the society that once was. With time, the once void wasteland flourished with new life, those who had built the new worlds took control as primary caretakers, dubbed Guardians by the woman whom they crowned as their Queen.

The Queen took lead in developing the new world by introducing new elements the Guardians could use: the 4 primary elements being Metal, Smoke, Plastic, and Meat. All seemed well, but something happened to the Guardians.. They have changed...

Dedan took his guardianship to the extremes, valuing time and resources more than the livelihoods of his workers. Japhet's existence was completely forgotten by his own children, so much that he resorted to hiding within the interior of another living being just to be loved again. And Enoch... Behind a facade created an Eden of his own. Introducing a new element, birthed from addiction and death, to be rewarded to his hard working denizens. As for the Queen, in an instant, she disappears within the walls of her own Room, with the intent of figuring out a permanent solution that will benefit the world they built.

The world was slowly falling to ash; until one day, a man wielding nothing but a baseball bat came along. With the aid of an old, wise cat, the man made his way  with the purpose of purifying the world of filth and corruption. Or so the wise cat thought. Blind faith was put into the man, only for him to eradicate the whole world, the Guardians, the Queen and her son. The wise cat approached the man for the final time, pinning the blame not unto the man, but the being behind the strings.  In the final stand, the man emerged victorious, reached out to the switch... and shut it off.

As time passed and the desolate land remained untouched, the Inhabitants from the time past, discovered the old decaying world and claimed it. New elements were discovered, and the once decaying land began to flourish with new life. But with new life emerging, new threats arise, threatening the very peace and order of the land.

Alas to say that I am the one who caused grief to the world. I led the man into his own demise, fooled into thinking that his intentions were pure. My final wish is redemption, in hopes that I can cure the mistake I have committed upon. I must bend the norm in order to complete my path and choose the puppet  that I know will aid me in this sacred quest.

Yes... you will be the one.

The game takes place 7 years after the events of the original game, where the Batter flips the switch and shuts the world completely. Or so he thinks. A world was rebuilt from it's ashes, and it grew from there. New life emerged, elements discovered, and with that, new threats arose.

You play as Max, the cook from Zone 3, who sets out on a journey to deliver the food to the Guardians. Should be easy, yes? Just drop in and deliver the goods and be on your merry way, right??

This game is created using RPG Maker 2003 1.12a version (known as the Steam version), as the glorious Gods intended (and the base game was made in 2k3, got to respect the grind). There are intriguing features in this game that you may (or may not) like.

-a fully functional settings menu which include 10+ window colors to choose from, video options to change your gaming experience (instead of hitting F5 all the time), anxiety time and a new tutorial segment.

-custom game over screen

The current version of this demo (version 1.0.1) includes the beginning of the game (zone 3 cafeteria), and Zones 0 and 1.

The following download contains an archived file titled 'care package', which includes both a setup with Runtime Package included and another zip file with the game. Whichever poison you choose, there are no wrong answers there. 

By choosing setup:
Follow the instructions within the setup menu (you can create a shortcut in the start menu/programs and/or an uninstall button).

By choosing the lzh file:
Right click and extract your files with whichever extraction program you have.
From there, just click on the RPG_RT executable, and you're good to go!
