What do you think?

Soo I played for a while (until the Magnus training) and I’ll try to give you some serious feedback

The things I liked:

· The soundtrack is great, well done!

· The initial cutscene is awesome

· The story and background of the game looks solid and gripping.

· Character and cutscene images are great.

· Finding items in common furniture is a MUST in these kinds of RPG and you absolutely nailed it.

· The combat system is simple, yet effective, I couldn’t dig in too much in attributes or elements but it looks like a solid system, well done.

The things that I didn’t like that much:

· The characters art is great, but it contrasts with the art-style of the environment. It looks as if you used external assets for the environment or a less resolution images.

· I’d have liked if the furniture stood out from the background in some way, letting the player know that he can interact with it.

· In the first combat (Magnus training) it’d be cool if he explains you a little bit of how it works, or elemental advantages and disadvantages. But you might be doing this later.

The bugs and glitches:

· In the main menu, when you go to the Continue screen and then back to the title, the soundtrack restarts.

· The ‘Wake up’ event doesn’t disable itself once played, so every time you get close to the bed it triggers again.

· The Quit Game button in the Main Menu doesn’t work (alt+f4 saving the day 😊)

· Finally, and most important for me, you have some issue with the layering system. I know is hard to make it right, but you should render the images depending on how far they are from the player perspective. As it is now, strange things happen (I attach screenshots)

All that said, in my opinion, the game has a lot of potential, and it has the most important thing for an RPG, a good story. On the other hand, if a game doesn’t LOOK good, people won’t value all the good things that it has.

I hope you find this useful, thanks for sharing and good luck with the launching!

RATHE IS FINISHED AND BEING PUBLISHED TO STEAM!! GAMEJOLT WILL BE UPDATED ACCORDINGLY!

I wasn't able to get past the character select screen... Am I missing a button somewhere? Looks interesting though!

It looks interesting but it is pretty much like an RPG Maker game. When it is fully released I would like to see what it has to offer, when you do plan to finish it?

could you add a few screenshots

Story

Beginning of Rathe: Shard Incident: In 20XX, astronomers discover a meteor heading straight for Earth. The governments of Earth stand together and create a plan to destroy the meteor. That year, the human race executes their plan to destroy the massive meteor. Using multiple specialized warheads aimed at specific spots, Earth makes its last stand... Each nuke hits its target perfectly, but the gigantic meteor was not made of rock and ice as predicted. It was made of a strange crystal that shattered into billions and billions of pieces, most pieces were no bigger than a grain of rice. However, 9 very large meteor pieces remain and the shattered crystal cloud slowly drifted into the planets gravitational pull...

The New World, Atla

Atla is a planet much like Earth today when the initial shard incident occured; modern society is mostly lost, but new forms of the technology are developed based on the elemental properties of the crystal shards. Vehicles powered by different elements like Water, Bolt and Fire allow the human race to travel their war ruined planet to safe zones half a world away.

Races

Humans:

Native to Atla, Humans have adapted to the changes on their planet caused by the shard incident. Human society now survives in small villages and towns; large cities were lost during the great war. Two different human types exist.

'Clean humans', those whose bloodline has never come into contact with the shard energies, though some have come to show a few psychic abilities, most humans, still rely on firearms and advanced technology to protect themselves.
'Super humans' are those who have come into contact with a shard(or children of those who have come into contact), their DNA reacted differently causing them to grow strong powers without mutation when they came into contact with a crystal shard.

Mutants:

Mutants are humans who held deep darkness in their hearts and souls when they came into contact with the shards. Although they are still slightly intelligent, Mutants have endured extreme transformations ranging from large flesh growths to tentacle and claw development, even acid and flame glands. It is believed the Mutants want to expand, but any sort of leadership from others is never seen, suggesting the lower ranks are connected to the higher ranks telepathically.

Tsu'Rani:

When the great crystals struck Atla, two gateways eventually opened, one was the path to the Holy realm of angelics, the Tsu'rani. When the gate opened the Tsu'rani heard the call for help by the humans, however there was a price, those Tsu'rani who stepped through the portal could not return and any humans who tried to cross into their lands would be attacked and killed. The Tsu'rani like to keep their realm free of the destructive hands of the Humans and so they are very strict in the upholding of their rules.

Demons:

Originally from the demonic realm, Demons came to Atla when the gate was opened during a major battle between Humans and Mutants. Losing their full power, Demons are forced to create chaos and absorb it in order to grow stronger. Being able to shape shift, most Demons live within human society, although mostly they stay secluded to the slums and darker parts of the cities and rarely venture to tiny villages where detection can be a high risk.

The Crystals and their Elements

When the giant crystal meteor was shattered there were 9 large chunks remaining. These chunks crashed into the planet and forever gifted the planet with elemental energies: Ice, Water, Fire, Bolt, Earth, Wind, Plasma, Dark and Light. Each element has its own strengths and weaknesses against the other elements.

The continent of Shen is where the player first begins their adventure. The main hero wakes up to the last day of their wilderness training from the village guardian, Magnus. The small island continent is known as a Mutant free zone thanks to the royal military based out of the capital city Zene, named after the insanely strong super human, Zene.

However, the wild zones between the remaining villages are still overrun with dangerous wildlife and bandit clans so regular camping trips are not recommended.

Combat
Combat in Rathe is inspired by the classical turn based RPG. Different weapons and armour, along with items and loads of spells and skills to use to combat the looming threat of the Mutants.

Victory and Defeat

Battle Victory comes when the player has commanded their heroes and defeated all the enemies on the battlefield. Defeat comes when all heroes have been killed, ...even on the overworld... and if all heroes die, it's GAME OVER and you must reload from the last point you saved, so save often! A status summary, Gold and an Item Chest(Shell game) await the player at the end of each victorious battle.

After being away from game development for almost a year and a half. I have finally restarted my work on Rathe!! Starting with a complete redesign of the combat system and inventory system as well as rethinking the skill and magic system as well.

Removed movement range

I took out move range. Movement will now decrease AP while moving and regenerate while standing idle.
