Doctor Eggman, along with Metal Sonic, has built the Death Egg II. Tails alerts Sonic to this and they plan to fly in a spaceship called the Lunar Fox to stop them. However, the ship only has space for one crew member, so it is decided to hold a fighting tournament to see who will have the honor of piloting the ship.
The victor who defeats the 8 rivals will face Metal Sonic and Doctor Eggman. Although all fights have a normal duration, the player has to defeat Eggman as the final boss in less than 15 seconds.
