What is Transcend?
Transcend is the story of an average guy who is given the power to bring himself back from the dead and travel back in time. The story unfolds as the player guides the character through mind bending puzzles that utilize intuitive game mechanics that capitalize of the player's special powers.
The Mechanics
Resurrection: By using an ancient artifact, the bones of an ancient wizard, the player has the ability to bring him/herself back from the dead. This is not merely a way to avoid death so as to make the player invincible to his his/her enemies. Far from it. Each puzzle in the game depends on the player's ability to die and come back from the dead. In each level the player will notice that some walls and platforms are transparent/ghostly. While the player is alive, he/she will be able to pass directly through these objects. But when the player dies, he/she collides with these ghostly objects while passing through the solid ones. Instead of being a punishment for failure, in this game, death becomes a means to an end.
Time Travel: The player also has the ability to travel back in time. Imagine if Marty McFly knew that, in the future, he would travel back in time and visit his past self. By knowing this ahead of time he would have been able to cooperate with his past self to accomplish what would otherwise be impossible. In Transcend, you will do just that. In levels that feature the time travel mechanic, the player will be called upon to complete the level once while anticipating what his/her future self will do, then again while cooperating with his/her past self. This mechanic is accomplished by recording the game pad inputs from the player and playing them back on a clone of the player. Such an approach allows for advanced game play by slightly altering the level as the player returns to it a second time.
