What do you think?

From what I've seen, this game looks really fun! But it's extremely hard to traverse the jumping areas.

Here's my thoughts:

  • I love that the world and it's occupants are so unique and varied.

  • I played this game a long time ago and all I could do was bounce around in the water, I couldn't figure out how to get into the tree branches. It wasn't until I gave the game another go today that I discovered the "dash" ability, which allowed me to get onto the branches from the sides. But there's a catch, sometimes if I dash onto a platform, I cannot jump once I get there. (seems to happen if I don't fall onto the branch) So I still have so much trouble getting up the branches that I am left feeling like I'm missing something.

  • The dash ability goes by in a flash, and it looks like frame-skip or teleporting. Perhaps there could be a blur effect behind Cauflin to indicate that he has moved forward really fast.

  • Are you supposed to be able to climb the left side of the ocean to get back up on the land? It doesn't look like it should be possible.

  • The game takes a while to put me back at the last checkpoint, so areas where there's insta-kill traps (spikes, pits) are frustrating in a non-fun way because a lot of time is wasted.

  • One time, I jumped off the cliff to the left of the windmill, climbed the trees, got the key to the old man's house, climbed the trees to the top right corner, jumped off to the right as far as I could, landed on the cliff, and used the key to open the door at the top of the stairs! (I didn't find the other key yet, haha)

  • The floating-platform-jumping section after the old woman is extremely hard. I don't think many are going to be able to traverse that. (unless I'm missing something)

Thank you for checking out our Demo of Volkstein! It's a 2d action RPG platformer much in the style of Mega Man or Link 2. Right now, we're running our demo to go with our Kickstarter campaign running now. The demo is unique in that it has elements from many different areas of our world mashed together to give people a feel for the world as a whole.

The Story-
In the land of Volkstein, something has been culled from the depths of the dark. A towering monster that roams the land, destroying villages and sowing chaos in its wake. The people turn their suspicions on the Grays, the nobility that's taken the throne, and the newly crowned prince who's father's gone missing. They believe he's in league with Ouvbane, a once powerful warlock long banished to the ether. But with it's spawn causing turmoil throughout the regions, fear cripples the country, leaving few who could oppose him or his fiend. When Cauflin's bride gets kidnapped by the royal airship, however, he risks life and limb to get her back, braving the regions, fighting the creatures that roam the world, solving the mystery of who brought this monster back, and how he can destroy it.

Version 1.2- Added Dash functionality. Also included checkpoints that you can access from the main menu or once you die.

Changed particle effect on enemy shot collision.
