This is a short 2D action/adventure game I created in June 2012 for National Game Developement Month. The website for NaGaDeMo is now gone and with it the original release of this game. I am uploading the game here to make it easier to find.
A Song of Mice and Fire: Quest of the Dragon Slayer is a short 2D action game inspired in part by fantasy movies of the 1980s. In the game the player takes control of a mouse, Mr. Squeaky, and is quickly sent off on a journey through a labyrinth to retrieve an object at its center. There are multiple paths through the labyrinth. So, the game should have some replay value.
The game uses the arrow keys, control, shift, and escape. Pressing alt+F4 will cause the game to immediately close; however, I suggest always exiting the game by pressing escape, because it brings you to a menu that will allow you to save first. This is not mentioned in the game, but pressing Ctrl+S will turn the sound off.
This game is for windows only and should work on any setup with DirectX 9 or newer that is capable of displaying 1280x720 content (it will work in non 16x9 resolution modes). Note: It has only been tested on windows Vista and windows 7.
Tip: An enemy's health is set randomly when it spawns and this value is then used to resize the sprites. As a result enemies that start with more health are much larger. Therefore, you should probably try to avoid large enemies whenever possible. All enemies leave behind health restoring items; so, try to fight smaller enemies.
Software Used: This game was created using Multimedia Fusion 2 Developer. Original artwork for this game was created using Blender and Gimp.
Hardships: My project files became corrupted in the last week of development. So, I had to start over and as a result the game is much shorter and more simplistic than the action RPG I had originally intended to create.
Ownership: This game was created for NaGaDeMo 2012 and is provided for free.
Sharing with friends is highly encouraged. However, this game is NOT open source. Please do not reuse any original content from this game.
Known Issues: For reasons unknown some computers fail to display a mouse cursor in the menus. It is still there and functional, but it is not visible.
Final Note: A NaGaDeMo 2012 logo is hidden in the bottom right corner of the first menu. This is intended as an easy to find easter egg.
