PRETTY BAD KEEP WORKING ON THIS.

So, I got up to the fire boss, but there seems to be no way to kill him. After hitting him a single time he floats slightly into the air and my attacks cannot hurt him and he likewise cannot hurt me (the green fire on the sides still hurts). I tried finishing him off with lightning, but Magic Revival and Magic Revival+ both only restore 5 MP despite their descriptions and after 10 bolts he still wasn't dead. Am I just missing something or is this boss completely broken?

I have no idea, how to attack.... and therefore I have no idea how to proceed further than the first screen.
