Equestria: a world at war is a game set after the events of season 6 of my little pony: friendship is magic.
The game starts with a cutscene of the player researching the mysterious anomalies of equestrian magic.
During the cutscene, Sci-Twi was giving the player a necklace known as the spectrometer. the spectrometer is an item that Sci-Twi used to aquire the magic used by the mane six when they 'ponied up'. during her research, she also took the magic from the portal to equestria, causing the portal to get sealed shut.
Twilight decided that the spectrometer was more safer being given to the player, as she didn't want to risk midnight sparkle being freed from the necklace once again.
