This was a pretty cool and unique 2-D action game. The graphics were cool, the music was fitting for the atmosphere and the controls were easy to grasp. I really did like the unique art style this game goes with when it comes to making everything look like a kid scribbling in the margins of his notebook. That being said, I feel this game has some unblanancing issues. This game is really unforgiving and hard at a lot of points. The game does a great job with the narration and the story being told but once you get thrown into the action part, you feel completely helpless. I know it makes sense for an 8 year old going up againts adults, but its his story and I feel your character is at a huge disadvantage. I feel that with a little tweaking and balancing this game coulde be a fun and unique 2-D adventure game. All in all, a fun game just a little hard but I still enjoyed what I played. I did a quick video on my experiance with the game and where I talk about some aspects that could be tweaked if anyone is interested.

This game is not complete but not only in term of levels but also in features. I really wish combos were longer and enemies are varied
Hero Boy is a 2D beat-em-up/horror game set inside the notebook of Max, an 8 year old boy chronicling a zombie outbreak. Max, a daydreamer who struggles with bullies in school and has difficulty making friends, is thrust into the middle of the outbreak. As Max witnesses the world crumbling around him, his usually fun doodles become more twisted. You must fight through hordes of enemies...imaginary and real...in order to survive.
Hero Boy is a beat-em-up in the vein of Golden Axe and Double Dragon. Using combos will let you do moves that deal more damage along with other effects like increased knockback and stuns. As you defeat more enemies, your charge meter will fill up. Once it's filled, you'll be able to use your special move. You unlock new special moves as the game progresses that grant different benefits.
The game has a wide variety of enemies to fight who will make use of a combination of melee, ranged, or area of effect attacks. You'll be fighting these enemies in different combinations as you progress.
CONTROLS:
Arrow Keys for Movement
Double-Tap Arrow Keys for Dash
Z for Light Punch
X for Kick
C for Heavy Punch
V for Ranged Attack
Shift for Special Attack (when Charged Meter is full)
Space for Dodge
Esc for Pause
(If for some reason a stage does not transition properly or an enemy gets stuck outside the level walls, P is our current debug key for stage skip. It probably won't be needed but just in case, it's there.)
The full version of this game will be coming soon to Steam on October 28th! If you're interested in what you've seen, be sure to Follow the game on Steam so that you'll be alerted when it comes out!
