Summary:
LOX is a level-based top-down shooter with some charcteristics of a bullethell. Shoot your way through 20 (there will be more!) challenging levels with plenty of enemies that want your booty.
Plotline (very sketchy):
You were once an arch-mage in a nameless fantasy land. You got expelled from the mage society (idk why) and now decided to go into Xathoebar. Xathoebar is a mysterious place surrounded by mountains that nobody has every returned from. (You won't either).
Playtime:
About 1 hour, depending on skill. However, with the CasualPlaythrough mod (see below) it is about 15-20min.
Controls:
WASD to move,
Mouse to aim and shoot,
ESC to return to menu,
P to pause,
SPACE to use special,
(hack): O+L to skip level
(hack): P+U to regen to max health
(hack): I+J to toggle godmode
(hack): K+M to double damage
(hack): TAB to enter command
Shop Mechanic:
When you start the game, visit the shop first to choose your element by clicking the tier 1 staff (extreme left) of that element (it's free). If you don't do so, the game won't work!!! Once you choose an element, you will only be able to buy staffs and runes for that element only for the rest of the game (to restart the game, simply re-download or re-extract it).
There are 4 elements: fire, ice, lightning and dark arts. Dark arts is the easiest to play as the staffs are balanced to be proficient at all stats, and the rune/spell drains enemies and heals you. Fire focuses on pure damage dealing, the bullets doing massive damage and the spell simply being a fireball that does extreme damage to one enemy. Ice focuses on pierce, and so has the highest potential DPS, but is hard to use (and the ice spell is an icicle-sorta-thing that has infinite pierce). Lightning is, in my opinion, the hardest to use as the spell, instead of shooting 1 bullet towards your cursor like all the other elements shoots 16 bullets out of yourself (think of the shock spell in POWDER); otherwise, the lightning staffs have insane RoF making it the funnest and lagiest element to play. After any tier 5 staff has been bought, the tier 6 staff (The Staff of Timeless Suffering) becomes unlocked for 100000 coins).
To buy a certain staff you must:
Be of the same element
Have all the previous staffs
Have enough moneys
Robes boost you HP and MP, and so are essential for survival. Robes do not depend on an element or level, so the only requirements to buy one are to have the previous ones and to have enough gold.
Runes are special abilities activated by pressing space bar. I would recommend buying the tier 1 rune before anything else. They cost a certain amount of MP to use (MP regenerates with time) and are extremely useful in combat. The requirements to buying one are the same as a staff, except they do not depend on level.
