I thought you guys might've won tbh, nice job
Hey! We thought your game was super polished and really enjoyed your aesthetic. Hope to see you around again.
We really love donkeys!
When we saw that Colorado has an official sport called pack mule racing, we knew this was a concept we could not ignore. Coming from South Africa, we as MinamiAfrika tried to change the way people interact with lottery systems by placing an emphasis on lottery games as a source of entertainment first, and potential winnings second.
What makes MuleJam unique
MuleJam tries to connect native and new Coloradans with their Official Sport... Pack Burro Racing! With a variable amount of donkeys/mules/burros with their own random personalities facing off against each other to secure a spot on the prized Crate of Glory!
Some of our proudest features include:
Our approach to engaging audiences who normally don't play lottery games meant that we considered many value-adding features. Some of which we implemented, and others we had to sideline due to time tradeoff.
-Procedurally generated characters.
-Randomly generated Character flavor cards. With funny/quirky personalities.
-Explosive particle system(Firecrackers, but we're proud of them)
-Self-made art assets. (Our Art team is really talented!)
Betting
Despite being a betting game, our focus in our limited time was largely the soft features. We thought it best to leave the specifics of betting to the pros. That being said our betting system is built completely off game(which means its really easy to tweak, without needing to recompile and redeploy the game itself)
Our current implementation of betting entails the players selecting a top 3 donkeys and the bottom donkey(so the one that came last) and the combined order of these selections form the basis of our win/payout criteria.
We're artists, so we felt it would be dangerous to leave all of the math to us alone. That being said. We did come up with an idea but our priorities meant we did not implement it fully. However, it would look something like this:
We felt that with each ticket purchase a sliding scale would be used to judge how much money goes towards the winning jackpot and how much goes towards the lottery. In the early stages, the full ticket dollar amount would go into the jackpot. Then with each stage, the lottery company could take a higher percentage off of each ticket purchase. With the amount maxing out at about 70% when jackpots are really high.
This, in turn, means that jackpots get built up much quicker when they're low, and even out later on allowing better margins for the Lottery at higher ends.
A big thanks
To GameJolt and Colorado Lottery for giving us this opportunity. Its always super fun to build, play and enjoy games!
