Open Doom hardcore edition is a special bugfixed and expanded version of Open Doom that has several new features.... Like Open Doom before it, Open Doom hardcore edition is a Doom Open World RPG mod for Doom 2 that requires gzdoom... It also is Open World and has Procedural level generation based on the Hardcore Chaos Mod I made for gzdoom, that takes blocks of architecture and uses random numbers to choose what block to height vsry or close to form a wall... Scripting then places in enemies, retextures the map, and more...

Open Doom starts in a room with 8 switches... The eye switches are for character development and optional game selection. You flip the right one multiple times till the game/mod your playing is selected, then flip the middle one first to roll your characters stats..

These are the stats: 

 Max Health 

 Damage Resistance - increasing this reduces player damage from enemies   Movement Speed 
 Survival - determines how easy it is to catch illnesses in the game
Capacity - Gives you more max ammo, It starts at 0 so you start the game without ammo.
Mercantile - effects the money you get from quest rewards
Intelligence - effects how much skill points you get from beating a map in the game world, or how much skillpoints you get from quest rewards.

Flipping the left eye switch allows you to choose a perk...

These are the perks

2x movement speed
Ammo Replenish - gives you infinite ammo
Auto heal every 60 seconds   
Armor Regenerate
Health Regenerate
Immunity to Disease

The glowing satyr switch behind you will cure any disease you get but does not fix stat debuffs they cause. Reroll your stats to fix that...

The glowing Lion Switch allows you to select a stat to upgrade with skillpoints... The glowing gargoyle switch to the right of it upgrades that selected stat.

Press the switch to the right of that to form the current map. Press the switch opposite it first to select map difficulty. The teleports found in every map allow you to enter other maps that will be different. Exit chambers leave the current map and allow you to go outdoors... White teleporters take you to a military base to do quests and talk to a merchant to buy random items with money

Money is earned by beating maps or doing quests

Questing: To do a quest talk to a marine. Make sure to NOT shoot him or else you take damage... He will mark a dungeon with a candle on it's entrance teleport. Then go through the dungeon and find a teleport or marine.. press use on that marine to complete the quest... Quests have randomly generated quest objectives...

Weapon Upgrades: press the left of 3 switches in the military base to select a weapon upgrade.

Press the right most one to apply that upgrade... Upgrades include faster fire rate, more damage, deflection shield, lightning shield and fire shield... They effect only default doom 2 guns for now..

Diseases: Once your health drops below a value that is randomly generated from 1 to your levels beaten * 2 you get a disease. Once you get one your will get others.. Once this happens warp out of the map to the start of another map and cure it ASAP. Permadeath:

To enable permadeath, where you only have one life, press the red switch... Don't do this unless you want the mod to become a roguelike! Permadeath ultra is available by flipping the red switch twice. In this mode almost all modes of healing (healthkits, healing perks, marines selling health) and Disease curing is disabled. That means you cannot heal whatsoever and NEED to have a really crazy high damage resistance/survival stat build early on.
New in this 5.5.0 version is a new permadeath mode, Doomsday mode. In this mode there is a 10 day countdown. If all 10 days pass, and you haven't completed 5 quests, you die!
New in Version 5.9.0 is a new Permadeath Mode! It's called Permadeath Plus and makes you play permadeath WITHOUT Using perks, buying items, upgrading survival or weapon Upgrades! Their all disabled in this mode!
New in version 6.0.0 there are 4 NEW permadeath modes:
-10 hp mode - permsdeath with max HP set to 10... You die easily obviously.
-poison mode - permadeath where you take continous 1 hp damage every 10 seconds
-speed king mode - permadeath where your health determines your movement speed
-fatass mode - permadeath where you weight 300-400 pounds and run out of breath every 10 seconds or so and cause of that you slow down big time while out of breath... But you can carry 2x as much.

Note : While playing in permadeath you should disable autosaves by going to options->miscelanious options->enable autosave and change it to never, or else permadeath won't work right.

To run the mod, download the exe to a new folder, and extract it there, then run the opendoom.bat to play...

Compatibility with Total conversion-like gameplay mods...

The following gameplay mods are compatible with this mod, and allow you to play them in open world as an RPG... Most of these are setup in the capacity calculations to adjust how much ammo you get per your capactiy stat level. 

These mods and texture packs are uploaded by me to download but were NOT made by me.... I can't take credit for the following mods...  When playing these, make sure to select the game these games emulate with the right most eye switch before doing anything else...

Make sure you load pandemonia-v2.5.1.pk3 then pand-anarchy-weapons-v1.3.1.pk3 then pand-anarchy-monsters-v1.3.1.pk3 then pand-insurrection-v1.3.2.pk3 then opendoom.pk3 in that order Each one of these links contains downloads for the mods and their texture packs... To use them unzip them to your open doom folder,  and then load them like this: gzdoom -file (total conversion) (texture pack) opendoom.pk3

Substitute the .pk3 file of the total conversion for (total conversion) and do likewise for the texture pack....

Balancing Tier 5 Combat Was not even thought about much. Sure it has enormous hordes of enemies thrown at you with the choices being hard as hell, but by that point you probably have insane stats and weapon upgrades #gzdoom #rpg

To Beat permadeath ultra, you need very very high survival and very high damage resistance early on. This means you need to sacrifice other stats including movement speed and capacity, only putting points into them in the first level. #gzdoom #rpg

Open Doom's Permadeath ultra mode is downright cruel in it's difficulty. No health means the players health will plummet fast... Once it gets low enough, diseases will set in and do lots of damage. #gzdoom #rpg

In Open Doom, Doomsday mode is not for the faint of the heart... Unlike Permadeath ultra, you can heal. But that doesn't make it easy...

You must complete 5 quests in 10 days which is around 30 minutes... If you don't you die. #gzdoom #rpg

Tier 5 Combat + Permadeath... That is something that is guarenteed to End a lot of permadeath runs in Open Doom... A lot of weak characters or unprepared ones will simply flat out be destroyed.... #gzdoom #rpg

In Permadeath plus, you need to be lucky to pull it off. You won't be able to use perks, buy stuff or upgrade weapons. Diseases will kill. It's shit luck near the end. Enemy damage will be massive. #gzdoom #rpg

When you complete 6 quests, your enemy spawn settings go from tier 1 (easy) to tier 2 (medium). 6 more make them go to hard. 6 more make them go to ultra hard. 6 more make them go to brutally hard, which is tier 5.

Note to people playing Open Doom in permadeath. Make sure to DISABLE AUTOSAVES before playing it that way, by going to options->misc options->enable autosave and change it to never. Enabling autosaves breaks permadeath #gzdoom #rpg
