What do you think?

The pixel art is amazing. The concepts in the game seem innovative. I would love to see more of this concept in the future! Keep up the good work!

Got an OST Link? :D

Other than starting over at the beginning upon death, I liked everything about this game! Sick style, and dig the ominous feel.

This is such a beautiful game, and such a cool combination of actions. Being sent back to the beginning of the game when you die feels like a real shame. Especially considering the content is not procedural and is primarily linear. On my third run I got one extra hit-point, and started to explore the second area, before I died.

I strongly disagree that this game is "about discovery" though. A game is "about" what you make it about, not what you say it is about. If it were a game about discovery, then the actions and environment would encourage experimentation and exploration. This game is about patience, and precision and it explicitly discourages any kind of risk taking. Not only does it discourage risk taking, but it also never encourages risky behaviour: there is no high-score, no achievements. Nope. The element of discovery is there, but it is only there to motivate and encourage a player to develop the patience and precision necessary to beat the game.

Not to say that this is "a mistake". I 100% understand the impulse to make a game super difficult and punishing, and I think there is a place for that (especially when you are trying to capture the nostalgia of old GB games). I believe there are players out there, somewhere, who will be able to beat you game and will be thrilled by the challenge. I hope this game gets featured so that I can one day watch a playthrough on one of their youtube channels.

Controls are a bit to get used to, but the game is great! I included it in part 18 of my GameBoy Jam compilation video series, if you’d like to check it out :) http://youtu.be/DbDw10BPoXA

About the game

Quantum Resonance is our entry for #gbjam3 (why not enter it in #foreverjam too?)! It's very much about discovery, so we don't tell you much about anything. Figure out what the buttons do! Figure out how to make your own combos! Pretend this was a gameboy game you found at a garage sale and it was just a bare cartridge with no instructions!

Most importantly, have fun.
