I think the main issue with the game isn't necessarily the design of the game, but rather its insistence on staying with the tried and true formula of Mario. The game is essentially a true Mario clone, but I think it would heavily benefit from standing out much more (As well as some better collider work and less wonky controls - I'm on a laptop, the arrow keys are tiny... I'd love to have WASD support). Also, that music can't be copyright free! It's almost exactly the same as the Mario music. I would say try to stand out more from Mario and make it your own while sticking somewhat to the formula. Even just a different style will benefit immensely.
I found some bugs like the invisible block in level 2,but your game is good!
Furry ball creatures are everywhere and no one knows why.
But it doesn't matter anyway, who cares about background stories in platformer games? All you need to know is that you must reach the next level.

We have a small update after some time!
No new content, but some technical improvements: Game controllers work on Chrome now, and the game will load faster on first start. Audio support is improved, too.

1WASD support
As requested, Secret Chronicles is now controllable via WASD, Space for Jump and J for Fire in addition to the other keys and Gamepad. Hope you enjoy the little change. :-)
