goro5's "secret project"

This is, of course, a fangame of "Five Nights at Freddy's" made with Scratch. I've been at this for almost four years at this point, so it's no surprise at this point. However, there are a few caveats with that statement:

FIVE NIGHTS

Only five nights of gameplay.

No more, and no less: no custom nights, no extras menus, no secret boss fights. Only five levels of chaos, the way @realscawthon intended.

NO FRIGHTS

There will be no jumpscares in this game. There could be scary elements in there somewhere, but you'll have to figure out how you failed on your own.

In other words, every "game over" is an experience — you just have to learn from it. This could be the most divisive part of this project, but that's just my opinion.

ONLY PNGs*

Not unlike @TurtleBoard 's "Five Nights in Luh Tonka Truk", this game is a clump of images held together by code blocks, or (as we call it in the industry) a "PNG game". This genre was popularised by @yoink_fricc 's "One Night in Burger King", and it's generally considered lesser compared to high-effort vector games. Since Luh Tonka Truk is being worked on parallel to this project, you could say we're trying to "clear the name" of PNG games and prove they can be something truly special.

IN OTHER WORDS: I am only using the bitmap editor to make/edit assets. If vector sprites are used, rest assured they have been converted to bitmap. I'm allowed to make text in the bitmap editor, but every proper asset is from the Scratch sprite library.

FUN** CONTROLS

What FNaF Scratch games do you know that use the mouse, arrow keys, number keys and space all in one gameplay loop? If you don't know any, then this will be the first. If you know a couple, then this will be one of the first.

ABSURDIST STORY

As you all may know, FNaF games are all about the "lore", the "plot" and the "story". This is not one of those games — there will be a story of some kind, but it won't make any sense. It might be funny, it might not. I think it's funny, but the player's opinion is unguessable (especially when the game hasn't released yet).

MADE IN SCRATCH***

This isn't your average Scratch project.

Instead of caving and using 3.0 or its many mods (TurboWarp, Penguin Mod and so on, there's like a thousand of them at this point), I decided to use the version that started it all for me — Scratch 2. This means dealing with the lack of certain features, coming up with workarounds to make said features, and other fun aspects of block-based development.

COMING SOON**** (hopefully)

According to the .sb2 file, this project has been in the works since August 2022, even before my big "hiatus" from making games. I haven't been working on this one game for all this time, but I did chip away at it during my hiatus. However, as of late I've been on the grind — development is still going at a snail's pace (especially with the final parts left), but I expect a 2024 release date.

IN OTHER WORDS: Development has sped up significantly since the "start" of this project and it will definitely release this year, but it's just as likely to release in August 2024 as it is in December 2024.

THE MOST IMPORTANT PART

This project is a secret. You never read this description, this page never existed, and there is no "secret project".

(For all intents and purposes, this project is also an experiment: "How excited can FNaF Scratch people get for a game they haven't seen yet?" By developing this game, I've been inadvertently trying to answer this question. Now it's intentional.)

OBLIGATORY HASHTAG SECTION

Cryptic phrase at the end of the description: Remember Steiner...

before it's too late...

the council foresaw this outcome...

the game is about 80%-85% done: development has officially reached its final phase)))

gameplay is practically done at this point, so i'm going to be making some finishing touches, playtesting the game, and tweaking mechanics if necessary
