Appearance

Agatha has little resemblance to a human child, as she has demented features such as black eyes that are actually not hollow if one were to notice the eye shines in some of her renders, and a large smile filled with rotten teeth coupled with black scar-like marks on her cheeks, reaching up to her ears. She also has long, messy shoulder-length black hair with uneven curtain-style bangs. Agatha also has no eyebrows.

Agatha’s key features are her arms with five unnaturally long, frail fingers, each with almost just as long black claw-like fingernails. The arms themselves look as they are burned or rotten, and are so long that when Agatha has them hanging at her sides, she has to bend her fingers. Due to the sheer length of her fingers, it is presumed that she is unable to clench her large, frail hands into fists.

She wears a black overall dress that's tattered down to her knees, the straps being fastened with black buttons. Underneath the dress is a white blouse with black embroidery. She is totally barefoot, with the exception of her right leg, which appears to be wrapped in a beige bandage-like sock. Her toes are exposed, though, implying it could be a cast.

Like many other characters in the game, her mouth moves like a puppet, yet she has no audible speech impairments. Despite having a permanent toothy grin, she is able to fully close her mouth to not show her teeth.

Once she goes into her Nightmare mode, her eyes will glow bright red (or pinkish red, depending on the lighting), her skin will turn ghoulish gray, and the white of her blouse will turn red. Upon closer inspection, her arms also appear to have a bit of a blood red color between the gray and the burnt black.

Personality

Sometimes, something so horrible happens to a child that their soul becomes corrupted by rage & sadness. When that happens, an evil child spirit is born from that suffering. This one's name is Agatha.

– E, explaining the origin of Agatha's existence

In a first encounter, Agatha presented herself as a typical child of her age, a playful, friendly, and childish individual. When first meeting Doug, as he stumbled upon her realm, Agatha greets him and welcomes him as a new student of her school, claiming that his presence in this school will excite the residence of the school, telling that her previous 'friends' starts to get boring.

Once having to confront this demonic entity, Agatha reveals her self similar to other monsters, blood-thirsty and malevolent with a love for violence. Agatha's playfulness extends to a sinister sadism, in which she takes pleasure in torturing her victims, viewing them as nothing more than toys for her amusement. The same can be demonstrated when Malak released the monsters from their respective realm, including Agatha. As Agatha got ahold of Bierce, she pierced the woman with her long fingers and later playful asks Malak, whom she sees as her father figure, if she can tear Bierce apart. Agatha also has a habit of taunting those who she confronts, as when she successfully weakens Bierce, she berates the latter and telling her to immediately die.

Just like children her range of age, Agatha goes into a temper tantrum when things did not go her way, as seen when Doug successfully retrieves all of the soul shards and claim the second ring piece, but this tantrum grows into a violent rage, as she no longer hesitates to hold back and embraces her psychotic instincts and chase down the players with the assistance of Malak. The reason was never made evident, but Agatha bears a strong hatred towards Bierce, with the latter bearing the same feelings to the child.

Behavior

Don't be scared. Agatha just likes to play a little rough.

– Bierce

Chapter 2

Elementary Evil

Agatha first appears in the "Elementary Evil" level, as the primary enemy of the school map.

Unlike the rest of the enemies, she is on her own, and she will play a "Cat and Mouse" game, meaning she will search for the player and chase them once she sees them. She can also detect the player whenever they open a door.

According to Vince, Agatha's AI is programmed to relentlessly search and torment the player. When stunned, she will lean back and face upwards and will shift her arms and head around. If one were to come close to her, they could hear her groaning in disorientation.

Unlike other enemies, Agatha is never aware of the player's whereabouts, and will only pursue them if they are within her line of sight, which makes her a sizable threat when the player is spotted, especially in Act II. However, this also means she loses track of the player the second she loses sight of them, making evading her relatively easy. In addition, Agatha is attracted to sound, which can include doors being opened, and will head in the direction of the sound.

Intro

Before the level starts, Agatha will teleport onto a stage in front of a wall drawing of her. She welcomes the player to the school, and refers to them as the "new classmate." She will teleport away later on, as the school bell rings.

Act I

Agatha will start searching for the player once they start looking for Soul Shards. She will wander around the school, listening for, and searching for the player. She will move towards any sound that the player makes and will chase the player upon seeing them, though the player can use the Speed Boost power-up to evade Agatha if she spots them.

In addition, Agatha runs around corners in the middle of the path, meaning the player can increase the distance between them by cutting corners, literally. The player can also use doors around the School to stall her during a chase.

In Easy Mode, Agatha's is much slower than the player and far easier to outrun.

Act II

Agatha will start using a teleportation ability to catch the player by surprise. Once again, the player must find all the Soul Shards, and avoid her as much as possible. However, she will be much more active when searching. Moreover, she can also teleport in front of the player to cut them off, making the usage of the Speed Boost risky as the player can collide into her while sprinting if they fail to turn around in time. Nevertheless, the player can still listen to her teleportation cue and quickly avoid her.

In Easy Mode, Agatha uses her teleportation ability much frequently. This can be at times useful since the player can send her in any room that the player like by looking at any direction the player wants her to be in. (only if she's chasing the player.)

Final Act

In the final act, both Agatha and Malak will go after the player immediately. The player also has to avoid the fake portals made by Agatha. The fake portal will explode if the player activates one, killing the player. At the end of the act, she will close the door in the auditorium, attempting to keep the player with her forever. She then makes all the chairs disappear, make the room darker and begins her fight with the player. During the fight, she'll teleport around then run after the player. The fake portals will spawn during the fight and will explode if the player touches them. The player must survive until Bierce unlocks the door, ending the fight. Agatha then screams in fury while trying to catch up to the player.

Chapter 4

After Mascot Mayhem

After Malak invades Bierce's Ballroom and recovers from her attacks, his clones transform into the monsters Doug encountered in the previous chapters, including Agatha. As Bierce stumbles in disbelief, Agatha teleports onto her and stabs her through the chest with her fingers. After leaving her on the floor, she proceeds to taunt her, greeting Doug as Malak approaches her. She continues to treat Malak as a father figure, which he reciprocates by allowing her to slaughter Bierce later. After complaining about not being allowed to do so immediately, Agatha continues to taunt the wounded Bierce. She is then warded off along with the other monsters after Bierce unleashes the power of her ring piece.

Bearly BurIed

Agatha does not make any physical appearance in this level, however in one of dialogues from Malak, she has a small conversation in which Malak denies to let Agatha watch Doug collect Soul Shards and orders her to stop annoying him. There's also a plush of Agatha where the Trigger Teddies are sleeping.

Monsters & Mortals

"Are you not aware that she offers only lies?"

This article contains information on a subject that isn't considered canon in Dark Deception franchise.

Agatha returns as a playable monster in the Monsters & Mortals multiplayer game.

As a Monster of the Speed Class Agatha is efficient at collecting soul shards in Shard Mayhem, pursuing mortals in Maze Escape, having little to no attack cooldown, and being tied as the fastest character speed in the game but, she has the least amount of health of all other monsters, and does low damage. Agatha can easily outrun and kill mortals, due to their differences in health and damage. Her attacks are also quicker and more agile, compensating for her low damage output. This makes her great for running and attacking quickly but, poor in combat against Power Mortals and other Monsters. She attacks by using her sharp claws.

Her ultimate ability, "Hello Friend!", allows her to quickly teleport to the player with the lowest health, strike them, and return to her original position. This is highly efficient in the aforementioned mode, as most mortals, especially in the speed or balanced classes, are probably going to have 80 HP or less when attacked.

To make up her low damage output, it is best to use the "Frenzy Mode" item from the Portal Boxes whenever possible to boost her overall damage output, as well as "Primal Fear", "Speed Drain", and "Banana Peel" to slow down or stun her opponents. To increase her chances of survivability, remember to use the "Med Kit" or "Invincibility" items.

In the Pumpkin Spice skin, Agatha's hair is dyed orange, a green undershirt, her dress is Orange with marks on it to look like a decorated pumpkin, and her sock on her right leg now has a pattern of Black and Green.

Trivia

  • According to a note found in one of the secret rooms in Elementary Evil, Agatha is heavily implied to be the ghost of an innocent little girl who was corrupted by her own anger and sadness upon a traumatic experience in her living life.

    • Going by the theory suggesting that each nightmare portal is tied to one of Dante Alighieri's Nine Layers of Hell and the monsters inside them are manifestations of sin, the Agatha may represent Wrath since she's likely the maid's daughter that Bierce sacrificed for her ritual, which caused her spirit became corrupted by anger and hatred.

  • Despite being the maid's daughter that Bierce sacrificed to Malak, Agatha and her school seem to represent Tammy Houser and the young age at which she was killed.

  • Agatha is voiced by a professional actor, Kat Cressida, most notable for voicing the cartoon character Dee Dee from Dexter's Laboratory.

  • In her concept arts, she was going to have much shorter arms than what she had now.

  • She and the Murder Monkeys were the only enemies to be in the 2014 build of the game.

    • In the 2014 build of Dark Deception, there were multiples of her, and her A.I. was completely broken, as she would always catch up to the player by teleporting immediately, which made the 2014 version of Elementary Evil impossible to complete.

  • One of her quotes most likely hints that she knows the Murder Monkeys, likely personally.

    • This possibility has support, as a drawing, and a poster of a Murder Monkey can be seen around the school.

  • Agatha is a tribute to every scary little girl that is featured in a movie and video game, such as "The Ring" "F.E.A.R.", etc.

  • It is possible that she and Malak are father and daughter, though this could just be Agatha referring to him as her superior/master.

  • Agatha is the first monster in the game to be both a common enemy and a boss enemy at the same time.

  • Agatha is the smallest boss in Dark Deception.

  • While looking around the school map, a projection on a school board is of a graveyard. Bierce mentions that the unmarked grave must be hers, meaning Agatha died at one point.

  • Around the school are drawings of her, posters, writing such as "Agatha was here", and one saying to vote Agatha for school president.

    • In addition, the school is called "Agatha Elementary".

  • Agatha has the most taunts out of all enemies in the game whilst chasing Doug Houser, having around 42 taunts.

  • A wall drawing of Agatha and Bierce can be found, which shows her hatred towards Bierce.

  • Agatha could represent Didaskaleinophobia, the fear of going to school; Pedophobia, the fear of kids; and Anthropariophobia, the fear of short people.

  • Her being able to hear the player open a door is similar to the game antagonist Baldi from the game Baldi's Basics in Education and Learning.

  • She is the first physical enemy who speaks, as Malak doesn't physically appear until later.

  • When the player completes Elementary Evil, Doug remarks that Agatha was almost the same age as “her”.

  • Agatha may also be a reference to Eveline from Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, but instead of a family, she wants friends.

  • Agatha "also appears" in "Crazy Carnevil" as cutouts in the big tent and as a plushie in the stands.

  • Despite the fact that Agatha cannot open doors around School as what the player does and must rely on teleportation to bypass through doors, she often has a tendency to get stuck on doors when they're opened by the player.

    • Similar to this, Agatha has a chance of glitching through the floor in Zone 1, keeping her trapped in one spot, making collecting Soul Shards a piece of cake. This bug fixes itself upon starting Zone 2, and cannot be used in said Zone, as Agatha teleports (Note: this was found by replaying Elementary Evil).

  • It is implied that Agatha may have some kind of supernatural telekinetic ability, as shown that if the player tries to escape through the closer entrance, the doors will immediately shut in front of them without any sort of physical interactions with it, alongside with Agatha saying there are no shortcuts, and when the player tries to escape, she will close off the exit without clearly making a physical interacting with it and slowly approach the player to kill them, but the doors open before she can do so.

  • The black marks on her cheeks may be a reference to SCP-1913-1, which surprisingly goes by the name "Agatha"

  • So far, Agatha and the Dread Duckies are the only enemies in Dark Deception to have four different kill animations.

  • Agatha's name sounds very similar to the word "Agony". Whether, this was intentional or not is currently, unknown.

  • Agatha and Bierce seems to have a connection with each other, prior to the game taking place, however how they first met is unknown.

    • Theories have surfaced that Agatha may be the identity of a maid's daughter whom Bierce sacrificed for her selfish desires, which may explain Agatha's hatred towards the latter.

    • Judging by Malak's comment in the cutscene after Mascot Mayhem, this just might be true.

  • Despite one of the death tips and one of the posters in the school hinting that she can hear doors, it's actually false.

  • Agatha and Mama Bear is the only enemies of all of the chapters to be both a boss enemy and a regular enemy.
