What do you think?

I have very mixed feelings towards what I've just played.

Despite having some strange decisions concerning the portraits of the main characters/Zodiacs where the eyes of Virgo look somewhat ...weird, the art style overall is superb. It is charming and allows the world to stay coherent visually which definitely adds up to the immersion factor and is rarely seen in this style of drawing.

The sound desing is something I have no problems with in this one. It serves its purpose well. As for the soundtrack...it's absolute perfection. Yes, there are only a few tracks at this stage of development, but never a single song present in the game was out of place or too monotonous/ repetitive.

Now that I've mentioned the positives, let me quickly go though some of the aspects I find a bit annoying:

a) the tutorial sequence is way too often interrupted by some strange comedic remarks of your trusty companion. This early into the game when we barely know the characters breaking the fourth wall feels cheap. (Just like in Neptunia)

b) the plot is rushed at the beginning of the game; but I'm pretty sure that the backstory will be explained more in detail further into the development.

c) the game relies heavily on comedy to tell the story, and I get what the author is trying to accomplish here. However, there just have to be some solemn moments not ruined by comedy for the player to build a strong emotional connection with the characters on a deeper level.

Overall, I'd say that I had a blast playing Virgo Vs The Zodiac. The idea of setting a plot that revolves around the signs of the Zodiacs is quite unusual and it is interesting to see how what challenges our heroes will face towards their goal to achieve the World of the Golden Age.

P.S I'm hooked. Looking forward to reading more of the story!

Ayoo it's my zodiac signn

The art is extremely pretty, and once you get to the fighting animations it's even prettier. It reminds me of old turn based RPG's but with a modern twist. The game isn't easy and takes a little bit of time to figure out. But if you don't like a challenge there's an easy mode for you! I do like how the items give you different abilities and how the color of your outfits can change depending on your stats it seems like.

Just beat what you have available and I must say that I was quite impressed. The visuals, sound, and writing are all extremely solid. The writing is both serious and humorous at the same time and I will be looking forward to an actual release down the line. I will be sure to spread this game around. Fantastic work.

The only negative I even have is Pisces design is really fan service heavy, but overall this is going to be a game I really follow.

So I finally completed the demo and had to come back to write a more comprehensive review.

The story, and background of the characters, is so well put together. Everything flows so well and I really found myself getting sucked into the world you've created more and more, and really itching to find out what happens next!

The battle system is really good, I think everything is explained really well and I didn't have too much trouble getting to grips with everything. I struggled a bit to defeat Capricorn near the end of the demo, but that's mostly because I was stupid and forgot to equip a new defensive item I'd picked up!

On the whole, this is so darn good, and I'll be all over the full release when it's done! This is the best RPG I've played in a long while, and I can't wait to play more =)

I'll just pop a link to my full video playlist of my play through here too!

Virgo Vs The Zodiac is a sci-fi/fantasy JRPG coming to PC, Mac and Linux. The game features traditional turn based combat with a twist: Guarding, countering and timing your actions carefully as well as trying to predict your enemies moves will greatly help on Virgo's twisted cosmic quest to bring back the Golden Age, a period of peace, symmetry and balance. In this galaxy where every action means a reaction, you'll play as Virgo, the Holy Queen, or so-called Dreadful Queen, bringing mayhem to the Zodiac Realms and leaving on your way a trail of stardust in Virgo's rage against the Heretics.
