1 year anniversary of my account + scrapped FNaF fangame talk!

Crazy to think I originally made this account to just post a game me and a couple of friends did for a programming class, and now I am working on a fangame I have been wanting to do for years!

PS: I do not recommend playing Escape the Dungeon, it’s so broken and it's what you would expect from a game made in 1 week by inexperienced devs lol


In relation to the video

As a little bonus for the anniversary, I decided to share something that I haven’t showed much publicly. Before FN2R was even a thing, I intended to make another FNaF fangame. Not a typical horror sit and survive game but more so a FNaF themed RPG inspired by the Mario & Luigi series. The project pretty much stopped because I was busy with studies + lack of motivation.
In said video, you can see a mock up of the intro sequence (music by my friend GuardianW), a fully implemented dialogue system, a platforming mechanic like the Mario & Luigi series and a really unfinished battle system.
Aside from that, I also had done other rooms that weren't shown in the video like:

  • The pizzeria entrance - Originally, I started by doing the main dinning hall of the pizzeria but felt like it was too boring, so I scrapped it and made the entrance instead.

  • Freddy's House (Aka: FazHouse) - This was meant to be the start of the game like how Superstar Saga has Mario going from his house to Peach's Castle in the beginning. If I recall correctly, my idea was to have Freddy be asleep and waking up after realizing he was late for his job at the pizzeria.

Aside from that, I also had all the walking animations done for Freddy (I eventually broke the code that made those appear in game, reason why they aren’t in the video).

Bonnie was also being worked on, although I think only one walk animation was ever done for him.

One last thing about this game that I will share was my planned story for it. I barely told this to people because I wasn’t 100% certain I would stick with it, but since the project is dead, I might as well share it here.
The game was going to be called Fazbear & Friends: Adventures in Time. From the title you can guess that the premise would be inspired by Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. The main concept was that the game would be divided in "chapters", each one representing a certain era from FNaF's timeline. Freddy and the gang would find a time machine at the pizzeria, which would lead to them getting seperated in different time periods.
At the time, I only had an idea of what the first chapter was going to be. It was going to take place in 1983 and Freddy would team up with Springbonnie to find his missing partner: Fredbear.
Story aside, I remember that I also wanted to have a different partner system than Mario & Luigi. At the start of the game, you would only have Freddy and along your journey you would have to rescue the other band members. Each character would have its unique moves in the overworld (Bonnie would be able to dig holes, Chica would be able to glide, etc) as well as in the battles.


And I think that’s most of it covered. As you can see some of the ideas were really ambitious which only contributed me to abandon the project. The idea of a in universe FNaF game is still something I really like so I wouldn’t mind taking another shoot at it, but no promises on that.
I also doubt I will ever go back to this lol. At most I would remove the FNaF ip and try to do something original, like a spiritual successor to the classic Mario & Luigi games. But again, really doubt it will happen.
One of the reasons for its cancelation was because I was doing most of it alone. Story, coding, sprites was all done by me. I got help from my friend (like I mentioned before), he even did the Bonnie Sprite I showed, but I still think I was putting too much work on myself just for a silly fangame barely no one knew.

Conclusion: Try to keep projects small and don’t get over your head when making a silly fangame lmao
