1 year of Sugar Rush!

Today marks 1 year since the first Sugar Rush! game release, this little project gathered way more attention than I initially expected, well what did I expect... It's Candy's! I spent about 12 days working non-stop on this project and it was actually pretty fun!

This whole Sugar Rush idea came to be around January 8th last year, when my good friend @MWaves was recoding Fazbear's Return 2 in vc and it motivated me to recode a game too, and you can tell which game I've chosen... I basically treated this one as a simple recode for fun, I honestly didn't think Candy's 1 needed any major changes, unlike Candy's 2 which I was debating on whether or not I should do that one as well, though it was on the back burner. However I wanted to sprinkle in something new so it's not entirely the same game, so that's where I added Special Mode nearly last minute in the development, I really like this mode since it makes the game more fun to play.

I was really happy to see the reception so about 2 days later I started to think about a potential sequel.

Sugar Rush 2's development was pretty interesting, as it goes around half a year of development, where for 3 months (May - July) was in a limbo state. Me and my friends started thinking of ways how to improve this game without making new assets, and we managed to do it. The only thing I had to fiddle with was cropping camera renders but that's about it. Sugar Rush 2 answers the question that yes, it is possible, and boy did that game pop off way more than the first game did, for the right reasons of course. It was basically more than a recode. I enjoyed making the game, if I don't count the amount of time I spent balancing. Shoutout to that one time I spent 7 hours non-stop working on the minigames, I felt I was going insane that time... (no complaints) Also major shoutout to @Spongi_124 for helping with the phone calls, it's a perfect cherry at the top the game needed, and he made it possible!

I wanna thank my friends for contributing to Sugar Rush 2, like I said in the release post, it wouldn't be shaped the way it is without them! This also goes to players who gave valid criticisms post-release and helped refine parts that were rough around the edges!


Now... What's next?

Since it's the anniversary today, I will say that yes, a new Sugar Rush game is potentially coming. Is it gonna be a big upgrade like the sequel? Not really, it's gonna be somewhere in between in a way. The original game doesn't really need any major changes, plus it's gonna be slightly smaller compared to the original, though don't worry, I'm gonna sprinkle in something new just like with the first game!
Over half of the cinematics are already coded, I've made a global dialogue system which makes the process faster!

When is this gonna release? Unsure really, but should be this year!
