(Sorry For The Repost)
Hey guys, to start this off we just want to say, thank you all so much for 7000 followers, but also the insane amount of support the games gotten in the past few months, we truly appreciate and it gives us the motivation to keep going.
Anyways, it's time for an update, because we haven't given one in a while. So here it goes,
To start off with what we get asked most often
"How's The Game Going"
The answer to that is "Good, but Slow". Something we've been doing for the last few months in secret without really telling anybody was an "Engine Switch".
As the game got bigger it became literally impossible to complete the game in Clickteam, so we did have to spend some extra time porting the game over to a new engine in order to finish it. However! I still need to state, even in the new engine (Unity) nearly everything is still Pre-Rendered.
We know not everybody has a computer good enough to handle 3D games, so we've specifically been testing and making sure Rat Race can run on even the lowest end hardware, by using the same renders we were using in Clickteam.
Now that I've talked about the engine switch, what about everything else?
Visually, things are going very well. Our Art Director @Nomok has been consistently working on the game and making big leaps visually. I can't say much without spoiling the game, but I'd say we're about 65% done with most of the games environmental visuals and models.
Character wise, we're still a little behind. For those un-aware Rat Race has 16 unique characters even though we've only revealed 4 so far. Currently we do have more than the 4 characters you've seen done, but many of them lack the finishing details and polish needed. Each character takes an insane amount of time to finish, and for the time being we've mainly focusing on getting other visuals done first.
Some other things to talk about. I'm just going to say it straight out, Rat Race is not Luminance's only project. I won't say what the other projects are, or when you'll know what they are, but I can say we're pretty much done with FNAF. If we ever make another Fan-Game, it would be more of a smaller project that we'd release to say a goodbye to the community, but nothing to the scale of Rat Race, or any of our other projects.
To finish this off, what can we promise?
I can 100% tell you guys, that you will get a Trailer 2. Trailer 2 is a big deal to all of the team, because for the first time I think everyone will get to see the true game that Rat Race is. Trailer 1 came out when the game was still very early on, and now that we have a solidified plan for the game, a few things have changed, and there's so much more we want you guys to see.
Along with Trailer 2, will come a HUGE announcement, that we still need to hold off on telling you guys. I can't say anymore on what the announcement is, except it's very big, and a good thing for the game. Many of you can already probably guess what it is, but we'll leave it at that.
To sum this up, Rat Race is still being worked on. We're getting a bunch of stuff done, and the game has gotten much larger than anticipated, but we're still handling it. Some things have changed, we had to make adjustments, but we're still getting more and more progress done every month. The game will not come out this year, but I can say there's a good chance it'll be out sometime in 2023.
Sorry for the long post, but I just wanted to make sure everyone was aware on what's going on. Again, thank you all for the support, and we'll try and give you some more updates soon.
~ Luminance
