Hi everyone. Thanks again for tuning in. If you’re still here, I really appreciate your patience.
I wanted to take some time to answer some questions that some of you may have about the game. If you have a question that isn’t answered in the following devlog, please leave it in the comments. I may answer it, if I can.
In the meantime, let’s get started.
Who are the playable characters?
While I can’t exactly specify who is or isn’t playable, I can say that as of now there are 12+ playable characters in FNAFBSL, all spread out over the various game modes - each even possesses a costume, which is only an aesthetic change. The only characters I can confirm as of now are Baby, Funtime Freddy & Handpuppet Bonnie (both of which constitute as one character), Funtime Foxy, Ballora, and Ennard. The rest you’ll have to discover once the game comes out. Which leads me into the next question…
When’s the game coming out?
That’s a difficult question. Let me try to explain this as best as I can.
FNAFB, and by extension, FNAF, isn’t exactly one of my core interests. As much as I enjoy FNAF, my interest rises and falls over time. For example, once UCN came out, my interest rose again and I picked up FNAFBSL again. That being said, FNAFBSL’s development hinges directly on this interest. This is a free product, after all, so as much as it pains me to say this… There’s not much of an incentive for me to work on this beyond me just wanting to make it. Does that make sense? Either way, I’m also a fairly busy guy. I’m in my sophomore year of college (studying game design. woo!), so I’m swamped not only by school work, but also adult things… like taxes. Yuck.
Combine all this together and you get me not really wanting to work on FNAFBSL all the time. Of course, I’m not going to cancel it - I made a promise to release this, and I’m going to uphold it. Of course, this may take a while… a long while. I can’t make any predictions right now, but please know that the game you guys will play will be only the finest product I can put out. I’m not going to half-ass anything here, let that be known.
Moving on.
What kind of game is this?
If you’ve played FNAFB, FNAFBSL should be nothing new to you. Walk around, grind, beat some bosses, read some funny dialogue. Rinse and repeat until the game’s over. But, that’s not all… no, I’ve been taking some liberties with FNAFBSL that I hope you all will enjoy. Let me make this clear:
If you’re going into this expecting just another FNAFB game, you may be sorely disappointed.
What do I mean by this? Well, not spoiling too much, but the game is much more plot-centric than my other titles, and perhaps the other FNAFB games. Consider it similar to FNAFB3, if you will.
There is a story to FNAFBSL that surrounds almost the entire game, and perhaps even the entire FNAFB series as a whole (according to the Golden Edition series, of course). Why is Ennard here, when the Funtimes are intact? What was up with the Fredbear Doll in Golden Edition 2? What’s up with Baby? What happened to that “clickteam universe” mentioned by B.B. in Act 3? The answers to all these questions are there. You just need to find them.
How much content will there be in the game?
A lot. Without going into too much, there are roughly three story campaigns - the Main Game, the Sidestory, and the Finale - an Extras Menu packed with returning Character Bios, extra scenarios that shed light on events throughout the series, a customizable boss rush a la the Ultimate Choice from Kirby Star Allies, and an extra Custom Game. That’s a lot of content!
Could I enjoy this without playing the other FNAFB games?
Potentially. I wrote the core story of FNAFBSL - the one told throughout the Main Game and Sidestory - with the intent of making it contained to this game. That being said, some content and references found in those campaigns may confuse you. Other content, such as the Finale and scenarios in the Extras menu, tie into the larger Golden Edition story. While I’m not saying you SHOULD play my games… well…
Anyway, that’s all I have for now. I’ve been debating releasing the Main Game, which is complete as of now, as a standalone game and releasing updates with each subsequent game mode, but whether or not that will happen remains to be seen.
Until then, thanks for tuning in! Take it easy, all!
Ciao!
