An Honest Review of the FNAF 2 Movie (SPOILERS):

Well, as a big fan of the FNAF Games and a part of the fangame community, I feel as if it's only appropriate I give me view on the FNAF 2 Movie:

I did not like it. I see that a LOT of people loved the movie, and because FNAF 2 is my favorite FNAF game, I really really wanted to enjoy this movie as well. However, I just couldn't pull myself to like it.

I'll play Devil's Advocate here and say what I did enjoy about the film:

  • It was definitely scarier than the first one.

  • The lore placement was done well.

  • The Animatronics designs were SPOT on.

  • The implementations of easter eggs were very well fit in.

  • The inclusion of Circus Baby.

  • The end credit scene with Springtrap.

Now, to the parts I disliked about the movie (hang tight):

  • Michael Afton being evil. I get it, the movie is NOT going to be one to one on the games, and that's something I'm ok with. However, turning Michael into the COMPLETE opposite of how he is in the games really throws me off. Another thing too, he gets 2 scenes worth of screen time, and is introduced very...awkwardly. It felt very out of place for him to come out and say "Hey, by the way, I'm an Afton and I'm here to help my Father for some reason that isn't going to be explained."

  • Henry's screen time. I really wanted to see more of him, but he only got one scene. I think Skeet Ulrich did an amazing job playing him though, and thought his character as a whole was great. He should've been more included though.

  • Charlotte being an Antagonist. Again, I know the games aren't one to one, but she is portrayed as being a lot more evil in the movie than she is in the games, and that just doesn't sit right with me.

  • The original kids are...free now? From running out of battery? Yeah this part didn't feel right to me, I think they deserved a more emotional goodbye and actually be "set free," rather than just running out of battery. While the end scene with the original animatronics coming out was cool, there was something about it that felt very weird and out of place.

  • The Withers honestly felt very forced. I think there could've been a much better way to implement them into the movie. If you look through the eyes of someone who hasn't played the FNAF games, imagine seeing the movie and see that all of the sudden, there's a prototype version of the main cast because why not.

  • The end "cliff hanger" with the Marionette possessing Vanessa wasn't that exciting.

Now, I could be seeing things the wrong way. Again, I really wanted to enjoy this movie, but I just can't. I really hope that the FNAF 3 movie succeeds and maybe, just maybe, my views on this movie will change.

If you have any thoughts about this, let me know in the comments.

Until next time,

Hacky
