Colortris

Colortris is a cute Tetris clone, like there are many out there, so the question is what makes Colortris special. Well, it's free, and it's primarily for Android, but also playable in a web version. I tried both versions before I began this review.

Well, we all know the game of Tetris, place the blocks in the field, if you can fill an entire line it will disappear, and try to keep it up but the game will go faster and faster over time, and eventually you cannot get the blocks placed in time and get "GAME OVER" when the blocks are forced over the top of the playfield. This game follows these same rules. So what I will focus on is how the game is presented, and how well it works, and then I must say that the game is charming. I've always been a pretty good Tetris player, if I may say so myself, and I must say that with that taken in mind I quickly adapted into this game's interface. Now I prefer playing on desktop over on my phone, but this is because I hate touchscreens in general (because I am a DECENT human being, not an old fashioned one), but I could still manage myself pretty well on my phone which shows that the controls are in order. I like the dark with little color presentation, yet there is some glow effect. The creator told me he is a newbie who just does something know understanding what they're doing... Hard to believe for me when I look at the result. The game is pretty customizable, so if you don't like ember color, like I do, you can also pick another color, the block shapes and so on. I liked all these settings. I overall have love for dark UIs, and then this version of the famous Tetris game works out very well.

What I do miss is a gamma correction, which was not really an issue on my desktop PC, but my phone has a very dark screen, and that worked a bit against me as I could not see the dark tiles (as you can see in the screenshot) and those made it easier to get a good view of the width of my playfield, and I missed that on my phone due to the darkness of my screen. Gamma correction would definitely help this.

But in the end, the controls are smooth, the phone controls are easy to use, and I like the graphic presentation. The music can get a bit old over time, but is overall well-chosen.

So in the end, the game may not add very much to the Tetris landscape, but for me it looks cool and it enjoy playing Tetris in this style, and since I got it on my phone now, I may have a nice game while I'm waiting for the train or something cheesy like that.

Normally I make all screenshots for games myself, I didn't do this time but used the original screenshots. This is because as Tetris is a fast moving game, and making screenshots and playing was not easy to do, plus I wrote this review in less time than I normally have. Apologies for that.
