Dev Day 3 - Wrapping up, and thoughts

Phew. That was…. much closer than I wanted it to be.

I had a ton of fun working on this. For my first game jam, I think I did well! I thought I’d take this log to just write out some of my thoughts.

First - 72 hours is much shorter than it sounds. Goodness. When I first planned the game out, I thought I would have extra time to add all sorts of little things, when in fact I ended up having to cut out a lot of stuff I wanted to add.

Second - I am….. Really, really bad at reigning myself in ^^; There were several times when I was working on some extra-detailed thing, or planning another thing to implement, only to realize that oh yeah, this isn’t even actually a game yet. Pretty much all day today was spent playing catchup, trying to polish and/or finish any base systems rather than aimlessly tacking on various ideas.

Third - I actually really ended up liking the concept I came up with! I’m not sure if it’s something I’ll continue working on, but it gave me some ideas for brainstorming, for sure. I also learned many much more efficient ways to do a lot of things programming and art wise which will definitely come in handy for future projects.

Lastly… Although I like the concept, I am a little disappointed with the actual scope of the game. I feel like it ended up as a pre-alpha of a much larger game rather than a finished small one. I definitely planned too large right from the start.

Overall, I had a great time doing this challenge, even with all the accompanying burnout, and I would totally do it again! I hope you guys end up enjoying the game, thanks for reading! :)
