Hello everyone! First of all, thank you guys for the 1,000 Followers on the game page! I know we haven't been very active, so we really appreciate the support we've been receiving.
With that out of the way, let's get to the actual post-update-devlog thing.
I know I said I wouldn't give any major updates until we reached beta testing, but I soon realised that it would be too boring considering how long the game's taking. Also teeechnically we've reached a VERY early beta testing phase, so I guess it counts anyway.
Graphic Overhaul
Do you guys remember that Teaser Trailer from a few months ago? The one we dropped alongside the game page? With some short gameplay footage? Yeah so, the game looks a lot better now.
None of the renders/models have actually changed, however we've added a bunch of effects and sounds to make the game feel more immersive and tense.
Teaser Trailer from January
Updated Footage!
Again, none of the renders have changed, it's not a major update, but it's still pretty cool. It also leads into the next part of this devlog...
Animatronics AIs
We've been struggling a bit when it comes to programming the AIs, since neither me or Hack (our programmer) have really worked on something like this.
The gameplay in DEERWOOD is... peculiar, it's almost like you're playing two games each night.
Luckily though, we've more or less found a workflow that works for us, and we've recently managed to program how the animatronics will work in the game.
(They can roam the map, attack, etc.)
Here are some quick gameplay screenshots!
Alpha Testing
Ok so... the game isn't fully programmed yet, nor is the main night gameplay. There are still things to animate, sounds to make and cutscenes to draw, the game is NOWHERE close to being finished... but we're still doing some really solid progress!
So, what's this about? Well, we've prepared the first build for our testers to check out, as we're trying to figure out how fast the animatronics should move/attack.
As I'm posting this video the build is being sent out to our testers, so fingers crossed. the game looks, sounds and plays pretty smoothly, at least for what's been done so far.
One last thing before ending off the devlog, HUGE shoutout to the DEERWOOD Team for the fantastic work so far.
We're really passionate about this project, and it wouldn't be here without their contribution.
