Devlog 2: Changing Lanes | 4/10/24


been a lil bit too long but howdy yet again! real sorry this took so damn long but ey, life is how it is so what can ya do about it? theres been a hell of a lot of stuff done in the meantime tho and quite a few major changes that are very worth explainin, hence this very devlog. for those who have been keepin an eye out here for a while now are probably wonderin about the whole "rebrand" thing so to speak so might as well start off with the elephant in the room.

What's with the direction change?

its been almost 3 months since the last log and through that time ive been brainstormin ideas for stuff surroundin the game, in particular the story. multiple touch ups, new ideas and literal headache later and that part of productions officially set in stone. the problem that came to me through that whole process was a realization i had about the way this projects been presented. this game from the start was cinceptualized as nothing more than a neat miniscule novelty that all around didnt amount to much you could do with or without. not much thought was put into the story as it was mostly focussed on gameplay and visuals. as the game actually became something the story required actual substance and so i reenvisioned and added to it, comin up with an actual sensible plot instead of the blurb it essentially was. however as the story became more fleshed out i started to realize that the game as a whole just didnt feel like it fit with what its based on. even if its general impact on the greater story of Rekindled which it was meant to fit neatly into didnt add too much the direction, stuff introduced, style and especially certain plot points just didnt feel like it came from the same vision. shockin that i cant magically read the CR teams mind to accurately predict exactly what theyd do with this concept, i know, but it didnt sit right with me to put this much emphasis on its ties to the comic when it was way closer to a personal vision. for the longest time the name of the game had the comics name plastered front and center when i feel as if it didnt accurately reflect the style and world of it. not to mention if the game ends up gettin traction and givin people an incorrect perception or impression of CR. thats of course not to say this games just some disconnected entirely original thing that ties itself to it for no reason, not only is this game built entirely on its basis so tryin to disconnect it would be disingenuous and damagin to it but it also still pays respect to it not necessarily through style and vision accuracy but through its tones, messagin and themes; for all the creative liberties it takes at the heart of it are the same sentaments that brought the comic to life in the first place. those themes of humanization, innocence and the loss of it, the after effecta of tragedy, all of those are things the game acknowledges and centers around, in particular their antithesis, and thats how it aims to do the comic justice.

to cap things off, heres how things are headed: the games now part of a bigger au to the comic whos name youve probably already deduced from the name change or can see from the game description. its not so much an alternate set of events or same characters in different context as it is a personal artistic take on Rekindled. its central theme is that of nostalgia, mostly through repurposin and usin various old aspects, theories and other stuff from old fnaf fandom days. its not the most apparent with this game as the nostalgia is mostly an undertone but stuff planned for later down the line will shine it through more clearly. please note that for the sake of clarity practically every story hint, teaser or old piece of promotional material prior to this is almost entirely innacurate to or retconned from the game and au so please only use stuff released from now on as reference.

OKAY, that was a lot, now lets get into actual progress stuff lol.

like i said before gameplay and story plans are all fully finished, meanin ive finally started actual production on the game! ive finally settled on the engine and have already gotten quite a few things done, mostly the warnin screen, rough main menu basics and a couple of office mechanics. stuff is all still very early and unfinished so i wont be showin it off, tho yall can see a few out of context placeholder graphics in a few older posts on the page. this games gameplay has always been a central focus and while the game has leaned toward story more nowadays the gameplay is still roughly the same and im still just as happy with it and excited to show it off, should be some nice challengin fun with plenty of content and stuff to switch it up. have also been doin a lot of rough sketches and comcept art for loads of stuff around the game like characters and cameras which ive also posted. overall its just minor startin stuff before the real big guns.

huge thanks to everyone whos been supportin the project thrpugh its run or even anyone new who read this to the end, its been almost a year since i came up with thia game and i cannot wait to finally have it out there, its an idea im incredibly passionate about surroundin something that means a lot to me and im glad its brought the interest of even people who have no idea what im talkin about lol
