Devlog #7 | Zombies!

Phew, its been a while since I’ve written a devlog. Doesn’t mean I haven’t been doing anything! As I have been pretty busy the past few months with webdevelopment I haven’t had as much time as I’d like, so little time went into Shoot ‘m Up. But, the last week I had seas of time again, so I started working on

ZOMBIE SURVIVAL

Now this is a very rough version (its actually a lot better as we speak), but the basics are there.

Today and yesterday I’ve been working a lot on this game mode - the herdes now attack the player, and you have a base in the center to defend.

Next up on the task list will be a store to buy weapons and abilities with your blood-covered money. This store will contain items like regular guns, explosives, traps, barricades, deployable turrets, flamethrowers, airstrikes, grenades, revives, speed reloads, you name it.

Ofcourse there will need to be a little extra on the enemy part, so I’m still thinking about different types of enemies instead of the default walkers. If you have an idea, let me know!

I’ve also finished up game-rounds (you can win a game by score or time, and that main loop is working fine, so I’ll just need some UI work and finish up the map choosing).

The short roadmap for me now will be;

Finishing up the zombie mode
Particle improvements (make em look chaotic and stand out more)
Environmental effects (snow, rain, wind)
Different types of weapons (namely a mortar, grenade launcher, rocket launcher and flamethrower). Maybe I’ll add in some new heavy weapons (M249, sawn-off shotgun) while I’m on it.
Complete the server list setup so you can browse active servers and join them
After that I’ll be focussing on an extra game-mode (capture the flag) and team-deathmatch. Once those are in I can start working on some of the “post-game” actions (map voting and map lists) and I’ll need to create some extra maps for those as well.

I think once this is done we can go for the closed beta test, which will be coming this very month… Stay updated!

Oh, if you don’t have a closed beta license key, you can register here and I’ll send you a private key + some more information once were there! Cheers!
