❤ DF CONNECTED v2.7.12 is available now!

This patch adds a new notification system, rewritten movement, improvements for auto-reconnect, engine tweaks, a small update for the DF Editor, and more!

Howdy, everyone!

A new patch for DF CONNECTED, v2.7.12, has released!

Before we get into the changelog, I'd just like to quickly thank everyone who has tried out the new DF Editor that we released last week, and for sharing their kind words and feedback with us!

We're really happy to hear that you've all been enjoying the new editor, and we can't wait to see all of the new areas that you'll be designing with it going forward!

For this patch, the DF Editor has been updated to v2.0.1. This is a minor update for the editor which mainly fixes some issues that were reported to us from v2.0.0. There are also some quality-of-life improvements added as well, based on feedback from you guys, to help make the process of creating maps even easier!

Of course, there's more to this patch than an update for the DF Editor - this patch serves to improve the game's feel and polish it up overall!

Here are a few notable additions/improvements:

  • A new notification system. DFC has received many new features over the years, and what you may have noticed is that a lot of them have their own notifications that look completely different from the rest of the game. In an effort to make the game's UI more consistent, there is now a dedicated notification system for all of these features to use, rather than having their own separate notifications!

  • Rewritten movement. In this patch, DFC's movement system has now been updated to feel a lot more like Undertale's. Your character will no longer freeze in place if you press multiple arrow keys at the same time, it's now possible to "Frisk Dance" by holding up/down against a wall, and slope collision has been completely redone to prevent cases of getting stuck!

  • Friend activity notifications. Using the new notification system, the game will now notify you when one of your friends comes online!

  • Improved player list/friend list. You can now press [TAB] while in the overworld to view the redesigned player list and friend list! The player list shows every player that's currently online, and also tells you how many of your friends are currently online - it'll even highlight their names for you to make them easy to spot! The friend list will display every player that you've added as a friend, and highlight their name if they're currently online on a GMServer game!

  • Improved auto-reconnect. We've made a few improvements to the auto-reconnect feature, based on feedback that we've received from v2.7.11. For example, it's now possible to exit out of auto-reconnect at any time by pressing [ESC], allowing you to manually retry if you feel that it's taking too long to reconnect!

With these changes, we hope that v2.7.12 will help to make the game feel better than ever while we continue to work towards releasing v2.8.0!

Now then, let's take a look at the full changelog!


Changelog for DF CONNECTED v2.7.12

  • Added the ability to exit out of auto-reconnect. You can now press [ESC] to return to the Connection Lost menu in the overworld.

  • Added a new "Force Reconnect" option in the "Other" category of the CELL menu. In the event that you get disconnected from the server, but the Connection Lost menu doesn't appear automatically, you can use this option to force an auto-reconnect to happen.

  • Added a dedicated notification system. Features that previously had their own notifications with inconsistent UI (guild activity, bank transfers, Undernet DMs, earning undercoins, etc.) now use this new notification system.

  • Added friend activity notifications. When playing online, the game will now notify you when a player you're friends with has connected to the game!

  • Added the ability to "Frisk Dance", a silly movement quirk from UNDERTALE. If you hold the up and down arrow keys together against an upper wall, you will now turn back and forth against it rapidly. It sounds strange, but it's fun to do!

  • Redesigned the Player List and Friend List, with a new look that's more consistent with the rest of the game's UI. To view them, the Player List can now be accessed easily by pressing [TAB] in the overworld, and the Friend List can be accessed by pressing [F] while in the Player List.

  • Rewrote slope collision to prevent cases of getting stuck on them in certain positions.

  • You will no longer freeze in place if you press multiple arrow keys at the same time.

  • When running, you will no longer lose all of your momentum completely when bumping into a wall.

  • There is now a much higher chance for fleeing enemy encounters by default.

  • The bullet board now resizes itself at a consistent, higher speed like in UNDERTALE.

  • Updated Noelle's up/down walking sprites to the improved versions from Deltarune Chapter 2.

  • Local chat history now has a limit of storing the last 50 messages. It previously had no set limit, which wasn't optimal if staying in the same room for a long time.

  • In the DF Editor, pressing [TAB] will now open the currently selected tilesheet, so you can pick out new tiles without needing to open the Tiles menu.

  • In the DF Editor, playtesting will now end if the player character goes out-of-bounds.

  • When the game can't find the custom map trying to be loaded, it will now check if the map exists with/without ".dfmap" added to the filename, so that it doesn't matter if it was included when linking the doors.

  • Fixed a bug in the DF Editor where enemy encounters were not working as intended.

  • Fixed a bug in the DF Editor where both conveyors in the Objects menu were down-conveyors. There is now an up-conveyor as intended.

  • Fixed a bug in the DF Editor where placing a group of tiles would only check collision with the top-left tile, which allowed tiles to stack.

  • Fixed a bug in the DF Editor where removing a custom background wouldn't allow you to import one again.

  • Fixed a bug in the DF Editor where it was possible to warp out of the editor while playtesting your map.

  • Fixed a bug where sprinting wasn't working correctly in the Free-For-All minigame.

  • Fixed a bug where encountering a gold enemy could increase the counter for the "Encounter X gold enemies" daily quest by more than 1 in some cases.

  • Fixed a bug where Rouxls Kaard's pirate costume wasn't aligned with his default costume.

  • Fixed a bug in the battle system where it was possible to select an option immediately after an attack had finished, even if the bullet board was still moving.

  • Fixed a bug on the mobile port where the controls could get frozen after selecting a reconnect option.

  • Other minor fixes and improvements.

Well, that's all for this post!

With v2.7.12 released, we anticipate that this'll be the end of our support for 2.7. Of course, if anything unforeseen crops up, we'll release another patch if really needed. However, our intent is for this to be the last 2.7 patch. We're itching to get back to working on v2.8.0, and can't wait to share more news on it very soon!
