Each Game Jolt mascot is created with a specific purpose in mind. As the site evolves, sometimes those purposes become outdated, but we've never thrown away mascots. Instead, we adapt them.

Bio below. v

Judge Jelly

Joined Game Jolt: 2010

Hobbies: Giving opinions

Dislikes: Indecisiveness, conventional review sites

Bio: Judge Jelly is believed to be one of the harshest critics in the universe; to her, something is either good, or it just plain isn't. This fact isn't entirely related to her personality, however. In Judge Jelly's culture, something that is neither good nor bad requires more explanation. Unfortunately, though, very few understand the arcane language of the declining Indie Ocean Jellyfish, leaving poor Judge Jelly no option but to communicate via the use of signs marked with clearly defined opposite opinions. Talk about being misunderstood!

Author's notes:

Judge Jelly is a clear case of adaptation. While PandaC was created with a specific site feature in mind, he could also be seen as the face of Game Jolt, so to speak, so it wasn't particularly odd to see him pop up somewhere on the site with a completely different role. Also, it should be noted that the feature PandaC was meant to represent has not become outdated... Can you guess which feature it was? To make things more interesting, I'll leave the interpretation up to you.

On the other hand, Judge Jelly's originally intended purpose became obsolete (in fact, the feature she was supposed to represent changed so drastically within a short period of time, she never ended up being displayed on Game Jolt in her planned role), and being more of a side character that users weren't quite as familiar with, she had to be adapted to remain relevant. I feel probably the best example of this is her prominent use for The Jolties 2016. Again, I'll let you guess which feature she was intended for, but taking her personality into consideration, you can see why she'd be such a good fit for The Jolties, an event that was all about critiquing and judging the best games of the year.

Hey everyone, hope you're having a good weekend. I'm just spending some time with one of my squirrel friends. Take care, love y'all!

Big thank you to my top ten supporters, and everyone who sends charged stickers my way—it means a lot.

Getting ready to do a little volunteer work with friends this morning. I'm all bundled up—it's chilly out there. Stay cozy, y'all.

Our quests inspired by #EverythingIsCrab end on March 5!

Complete them while you can!

(Everything is Crab is a cute, challenging, highly replayable action roguelite.)

Hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

Did you miss out on any of the games we highlighted from Steam Next Fest? They're all listed in the article. Check out their demos before Next Fest ends!

Very toxic, invasive, and the plant is covered with thorns, but even so, I'm always excited to see these horse nettle berries. The colour is so nice.

One more post before the weekend, 'cause why not.

Was just testing a new grunge brush I made with a very quick tree doodle, but I'm not sure if I like it yet.

I'll probably have to give it more time + mess with the settings to know for sure.

Akatori is an epic metroidvania where you wield your staff to fight, jump, and explore diverse realms across different eras.

It's also one of the games that's part of Steam Next Fest!

Here, take this random doodle painting of Hattie I scribbled while my brain was in sleep mode.
