FNAC, But Better!

FNaC 1 Custom Night v2.5.0 has been released. Play it now!

Allow me to rant for a second.

Remember that "Thanks for Playing!" post with the crappy photoshop of Shadow Vinnie and Monstergami in it? Well, when that was posted, I really did think that was it. I really wanted that to be it! For a while, I was completely satisfied!

But alas, the tryhards. Oh, the tryhards.

The tryhards have tryharded so tryhardedly, that the corpse of Evil Wacko has risen from the dead! And while he's here, he fixed up some other things to better the experience of the non-tryhards. The trysofts? Anyway.

Here's this update summed up in one sentence: I made the game easier for casuals - the people that don't want to download LiveSplit to play their FNaF fangame - and I made it more annoying for the tryhards!

(Btw everything I just said above was intentionally facetious, read the bottom of the post if you want my genuine thoughts!)

Changelog for tryhards:

- Blank's third (standing) camera phase now has a randomized duration. Previously on 20 AI, it was a fixed length of 8 seconds. Now, the shortest length of this phase is 2 seconds, and the longest length is 14 seconds.

- Cindy's leaving-stage time now has a wider range of randomness. Previously on 20 AI, she left after either 26, 28, or 30 seconds. Now, she leaves at any 0.25s interval from 24 to 34 seconds.

- Old Candy's time spent in each camera is now randomized. Previously on 20 AI, he moved every 5 seconds. Now, he moves at any 0.25s interval from 3 to 7 seconds.

- Watching Blank or Old Candy's camera with night vision off on Blood Mode now adds to his watch timer half as much as with night vision on.

Changelog for everyone else:

- Characters with glowing eyes now keep their glowing eyes on Blood Mode!

- Cindy and Chester's mechanics now work with night vision off! On Normal Mode, watching them is just as effective on or off. On Blood Mode, watching them with night vision off is half as effective.

(I guess I'll pause here and explain the conclusion I came to regarding night vision. I realized that even with some fundamental mechanic in place to force toggling night vision more... how would that make the game better? It would just be another thing to mentally track, which eventually gets old, and it would awkwardly break up the flow of camera switching. Imagine having to double-click the camera buttons every couple seconds become of some weird night vision meter... does that sound fun to you, or just annoying?

That's not in the spirit of FNAC1, and it's also not in the spirit of FNAF1 and 2, which it was based on. In FNAF2, the flashlight is vital to seeing stuff, but there's a lot of cases where it's never used, not needed, or even an extra challenge to play without. And I think that's the best dynamic for night vision to have.

To achieve that, I made the game completely playable with night vision off... if the player would like to play that way. But the game is still easier to play with night vision on.)

- Blank anti-cheese has been removed. AKA, the thing where he sits with his fist on the window staring at you. Because of the tryhard-related change, the "cheese" I was trying to remove doesn't really exist anymore. So why not let camera-less strat for Blank exist outside of the max modes? This ultimately just makes the game easier to play and understand for casuals, which is a win.

- Old Candy's humming ambience follows him in the cameras as well as at the door!

- Cindy's mechanic on Normal Mode has changed! Instead of camping your door for 10 seconds, she initially acts like Candy and instantly leaves, but will stay an extra second longer each time she reaches the door again.

- The window door has to be more than halfway closed in order for Blank to not break it when he hits.

- Chester's powerout sequence on Blood Mode not counting as power reaching 0% has been fixed!

- AI values now save when returning to the menu!

- Toggling night vision on and off is more responsive to your clicks now!

- The power reading in the top-left now only goes out 2 decimal places instead of 3 when the power is below 10%.

- F2 instructions have been added to the menu. No clue why they weren't there before.

- Power Records from previous versions have been wiped due to the gameplay changes, but any stars earned are preserved. The scoreboards for Power Remaining on GJ are wiped as well.

v2.5.1 Changes:

- Reverted Blank's window change; now it's back to if the window is closed at all, Blank will bonk instead of break!

- The window button hitbox has been vertically enlarged!

- Blank's randomness in standing phase has been shortened to a range of 4 - 12 seconds.

- Old Candy's movement randomness has been shortened to a range of 4 - 6 seconds. This has also in turn fixed an issue with him freezing sometimes, I hope.

v2.5.2 Changes:

- Fixed Chester not slowing down with night vision off when playing non-remastered mode.

- Moved the window button hitbox up 10 pixels.

Here are my (hopefully) final thoughts on FNaC 1 CN:

From my experience playing this one leisurely, All 15 on Normal Mode is the hardest that this game gets while still being fun. That's what I recommend working your way up to through the various presets. If you enjoy that and want to keep pushing with Blood modes, playing with AIs past 20, then go for it! But once it starts to become annoying, that's when you should reconsider. At that point, the game shifts from "FNAC, but with better gameplay!" to "FNAC, but with better max modes for top players!"

And to the max mode players, just know that you did this to yourselves! "Why is this max mode that I'm using a timer on to beat so annoying and awful to play?"

Okay, being silly aside, I don't have anything against people who enjoy pushing this game to its limit. Timer strats being the way to do that for v2.2.1 is not your fault, it's mine! However, if you were doing that and NOT enjoying it, and if you were just doing it for MML clout, then yes, this update WAS meant to annoy you, because you're playing these games for reasons I do not respect.

Anyways, that's all from me. Hopefully for good, but who knows at this point. FNAC 1 CN v6.0 CONFIRMED?! Thanks for reading!

A 2.1.0 update to FNaC 1 CN has just released, adding a Remastered skin! Press R on the menu to toggle it!

Along with this, there are slight tweaks that I'll list below:

FNaC3 Custom Night v1.0.5 is out. A crashing bug and a Hard Cassette bug are both fixed. Now, Evil Wacko can finally rest...

Here's some fun trivia: I edited Undying to be super buff so I could pose him and draw over him for One Night at Frogger's.
