Future of the project - Plans for 2026

This devlog won't contain any gifs or images, those will come soon with actual progress updates.

It's been around half a year since I've made any updates regarding this project, I apologize for that.
IRL, I got busy with moving and from having a job which impacted how much time I could spend on GJ/Discord. That doesn't mean I stopped working on the game.

For these past few months I've been working on the biggest features of the game, which are PvP and the Attack Creator (and also the skill tree). These features are absolutely huge, that + the fact that I have less time to actually code means things take longer to create.

And that's a big issue.

I realised I have to change the plan for this game.
My original plan was to release it when it's fully complete and polished. I'm stepping away from this idea.

While I still refuse to release something that's "half-baked" and "not tested properly" I can't afford to wait until every feature is coded.

That's why I decided that I will release a permanent version of the game, not a test, not an event, a proper release of the game that will stay there for good. There is a catch: it will obviously be a downgraded version of the game that only includes features that are ready and tested.

The first few versions will fully focus on the roleplaying aspect and smaller updates, then with time I will release bigger features like PvP etc.

Here is a list of the features that will be available in the first release:

  • Main menu, settings, loading and saving (100% ready)

  • Daily rewards + daily streak (100% ready)

  • Quests (100% ready)

  • 20+ skins (100% ready)

  • Character customization + accessories + titles (90% ready)

  • 30+ achievements (100% ready)

  • Gamepad support (100% ready)

  • Player parties (100% ready)

  • Player teleport (100% ready)

  • Minigames (50% ready)

  • Overworld (note below)

  • Local chat (technically 100% but needs a rework)

  • Props (20% ready)

Here's an explanation as to why some features are not ready yet:
Character customization + accessories + titles

This is technically a new feature that has not been showcased yet, I will make a devlog about this next weekend, I think you're really gonna like it! I gave these 90% because I'm still waiting for some sprites but other than that, it's all coded.

Minigames

Most minigames that will be available come from previous events, while they are ready, some of them need a code rework.

Overworld

On release, areas which you can go to will be limited. In the first version you will only be able to travel in Ruins and Snowdin. Sprites of the rooms are ready I only need to fill them out with actual stuff lol.

Local chat

The game engine I use had an update at some point that fixed some stuff, which actually broke stuff inside of the game, mainly the chat. A rework won't take much time.

Props

Again, this is a new feature that hasn't been showcased yet. Work on it slowly began but it's not quite there yet. Soon enough I will make a devlog about it too. It's a very cool feature, useful for roleplaying.

Now let's talk release date:
Since I am able to cut out a lot of big features the time until release gets shorter too, and more realistic. I expect to start doing internal test sessions at the end of February, if I meet that deadline the game will get released at some point in March.

I will try my best to make weekly updates on the features I mentioned today so that you actually know if we're on track or not.

For now, that's all. I still have a lot on my mind but it's not the time and place. I am glad to be motivated to work and not burnt out again. Believe me, I want to be done with this project too lol, it's about time

I have added rewards for quests so that villagers can give you something in return for your hard work helping them. 🥳

I want to know - what's your favourite quest reward?

Hi everyone! I started to create some environment props for my new video game, here is a cozy house in the forest. I'm planning to switch from Unity to Unreal... Let's see what new challenges I have to face. Made in Blender and Substance Painter.
