Greetings, all! Thank you for your patience as this game continues development. As of tomorrow, I'm gonna be going to a supported internship (like a job, but with support from college and unpaid) Mondays to Fridays, so I won't be able to focus solely on this game for a while.
Fortunately, thanks to the ongoing efforts of @CrystalZeroChaos , the game's progress has been going smoothly. Today, I'm gonna show off some of the stuff you can expect from this game.
Classic Mode and Reclassified Mode
One of the major features of both takes on the game, these modes configure some things about each game for a new experience.
Classic Mode crops the screen down to a 4:9 ratio to make it more authentic to a classic Sonic game. Lives are limited in this mode, so you should be careful, especially since most special abilities will be switched off in this mode. If you can make benefit of it, those black rings/Sin Rings can be located.
Reclassified Mode, on the other hand, uses a 16:9 widescreen ratio and provides you the characters' special abilities, like Tails' flight and Knuckles' gliding. You'll never run out of lives in this mode; rather, you can gather coins instead of lives within this mode to spend in the Shop and Gallery, which I'll explain further down.
Finally, Definitive Mode compiles each of the three games into a single, combined experience for you to go through. In Genesis' Awakening, you can use this mode to keep track of your collectibles and return to a character's story at any time in case you missed anything out. For that game, if you find all the Cartridges at least, you can possibly put things right.
The collectibles available between modes will differ depending on what mode you're playing. Black/Sin Rings will only be available via, Classic Mode, Cartridges and Chaos Emeralds are hidden behind Reclassified Mode, and a special CD can only be found in Definitive Mode. The Sin Rings, for Genesis' Awakening, are the only collectibles not mandatory to get the final ending of Genesis' Awakening.
For Classic Mode and certain other content, you can toggle different "letterbox" borders based on various media. I'd also like to thank the likes of @NightAkio_ , @UltraEpicLeader100 and @Thunderie for submitting fan-made borders to be presented in the game. I hope you guys enjoy their creativity as much as we enjoyed picking the borders out.
Dr. Robotnik Gameplay
Next up, I'd like to touch on Robotnik's new gameplay mechanic. That's right; the good old doctor is now no longer helpless against any threats in his path, because he can summon Badniks to his aid simply by pressing B (S by default), then A (A by default) after picking a Badnik to summon it into the field.
You can summon a Balkry (the one summoned in the above screenshot) to get over big gaps, a Ballhog to get around faster, and a Madmole to throw mushroom projectiles at your enemies. However, make sure you use these resources wisely.
Cream Gameplay and Sally.exe Plans
Now, to touch on the progress on the Sally.exe part of the game. We can say for certain that Amy and Cream are fully programmed in with their own abilities and ready to go for the game.
Cream, in particular, has the ability to fly like Tails. And along the path, a familiar robotic companion of hers might be along to assist where need be in Genesis' Awakening.
The levels following Knuckles's ones are going to be differing between takes from then on. Whilst EXE Origins will be using Launch Base Zone again, Genesis' Awakening is going to go and use Crystal Egg Zone from the Game Gear version of Sonic 2, complete with puzzle-oriented gameplay.
DLC Gameplay
Time to touch on the DLC patterns for the game, now. The fourth screenshot showcases Honey in action in Splash Hill Zone from Sonic 4 (up to you if you think that game exists or not).
For EXE Origins, the four characters are going to be simply around a singular storyline leading up to the end of their tether. However, for Genesis' Awakening, as you saw in the DLC teaser post, there'll be four separate DLC stories, including a surprise fifth character we'll be sure you'll be interested to see.
We're not yet sure how the DLC itself will be possible to implement into the base game, but we'll figure out a way.
You'll also have noticed the pattern of different HUDs between screenshots by now, which is down to the general theming of each game. Sonic.exe is themed around Sonic 1, Sally.exe for Sonic 2, and Rouge.exe (and EXE Origins' DLC) for Sonic 3. This is to help provide some variety throughout and help with the experience.
Sonic.EXE All-Stars remade in Sonic Reclassified
So you may be wondering... what in the world was the "Obsessive Love" post about? And how does it relate to Reclassified's progress?
Well, for the EXE Origins side of the game, Sonic.EXE All-Stars is going to get its own remaster within the game. The fifth screenshot in this set is from the new first level of the Sally.exe portion, "Obsessive Love", which will replace Not Perfect in the level lineup.
Now, as for its position in the official Sonic.EXE All-Stars remasters led by @PrimalKoopaGaming ? For now, this remake is going to remain its own standalone thing and isn't canon to any of the pre-existing timelines of the remakes, especially not the one Refined Edition is in, considering that's gonna be a full-out remaster of the original lore the game entailed.
Out Shopping
Finally, we'd like to introduce... the Shop, coded by @NotSoDevyJolt himself!
With the coins you can get from completing Missions or hunting them down in Reclassified and Definitive Modes, you can purchase a variety of goodies to boost your experience with the game.
The inventory of this shop hasn't yet been finalised, and is likely to differ between takes. But we're sure there'll be a good variety for you to see.
Conclusion
All-in-all, we here would like to thank you for your continued patience as the game's development continues. We hope to get demos out for both takes in the future, alongside the full games as soon as we can get them out.
As for the situation with the Carters you saw in the old page's posts... that'll be touched upon in the Genesis' Awakening half of the project, and you may have a chance to give them some closure.
And with that, that's it for now. Have a good day/night, all, and we'll see you again in the next post!
