during one of mario and luigi's many great adventures, they were swimming in an underwater location, they began to traverse deeper and deeper in it. when Luigi suddenly got caught in a group of vines and couldn't escape, and Mario wasn't able to save him. causing luigi to drown and die. mario became deviastated with it. A Grave for luigi was made in honor of him Behind The Mushroom Kingdom castle. and everyday, Mario would visit luigi's grave and place down a flower each time to show his remorse and love for his brother. One Day However, during one of these vistis. Princess Peach walked up to Mario, who was crying over the loss of his brother. unable to move on. blaming himself for what occured. Princess Peach began to explain to mario that he can't hold on to the guilt forever, and reminds him that this wasn't his fault. and suggests mario takes a break to get a hold of himself. so mario decides to visit some old locations but none of these brought any end to his guilt. eventually Mario would stumble upon one of Luigi's Favorite Locations...The Grass lands. during Mario's visit, he began to hear a voice calling out to him from the distance. it was luigi. so mario ran to the sound of luigi's voice, shouting to him that he's coming. eventually, Mario entered a shallow water pond, where his upper body remained above water, after walking for awhile, he would find luigi. full body under the water except for his head. but something was wrong, his hair was drooping and long. and his skin was pale. mario walked up to luigi, and put one hand on him. suddenly luigi began to change in size, turning huge and thinner, with a wider mouth and red gloves. he grabbed mario, and threw him as far as he could, knocking mario out. days later, mario awoke, floating on his back. suddenly he hit his head on what felt like road. he looked over and discovered, that he was no longer in the mushroom kingdom. looking around his new surroundings, all he could see were destroyed buildings, a city of sorts. abandoned, forgotten. cars with blood all over them. "who did this?" mario thought to himself, but he would soon find out the answer was closer than he thought...
