I got inspired by Weirdos Speed's video to make a FNaF fangame around Tom & Jerry since no one has done that before.
Wanted to get it done by Halloween, then realized, "oh no, Halloween night is in 7 days", so I started working on everything from a Tom model (I even added fur cards but those couldn't make it in since the demo is very unoptimized) to the map and a story.
I'm so happy to get this out there. I've been doing game dev the past 6 years but I have a really bad problem where I can work on a game for months only to eventually get bored of the game and never release it, but stress usually helps xD
The demo released rn is pretty rough for the sake of releasing it on Halloween; there's no ending to it, and I'm going to take a small break from game dev since I feel burnt out now, but I will finish the game if people want a Tom & Jerry fangame!
I plan on eventually making a 2nd game that's set inside an in-universe recreation of the Tom & Jerry house if demand comes. First gotta finish this game though, I have some ideas for Jerry's mechanics that would make the gameplay less "close door when Tom".
I'm not particularly scared of getting a cease and desist from Warner seeing Treasure Island is still up and they're dealing with the horrifying trigger-happy DISNEY who is completely merciless about sueing people, and I'm trying to stay as faithful to the show as possible. I've spent 6 hours on the projector alone, making a shader for the film tape that makes it look as if its moving and even adding tiny image previews if you look closer.
The demo in general is a bit technologically impressive (by my standards anyway) since I'm also using Godot's lights for the actual projection of the projector. For example, there is an spotlight for every of my game that has a black and white texture of the corresponding channel/frame of the animation set as a light cookie; there are 3 lights combining into one to cause an actual coloured projection onto the wall. I also average out some of the colours and change the multiplier for the volumetric fog for every light to make it look like the actual projection beam has colour
