Hey guys, this is gonna be a bit of a different post this time around but I wanted to take some time and recognize the 9th anniversary of The Return To Freddy's.
Whether you love it, hate it, or think it's pure comedy gold, there's no denying that this series, for better or worse, has had a colossal impact on the fangame scene, and it's truly stunning to me that it has lasted as long as it had in terms of it's relevancy.
There's no denying that the series creator is definitely one of infamy in many ways, as his story online is just as absurd, but to give credit where credit is due, he had inspired so many people to create their own fangames, myself included, and was definitely one to start a wave of people to try following in his footsteps.
Although my friendship with the creator was admittedly very rocky, especially near the end, it was definitely an honor at the time to have had the privilege to work with him as in many ways he was the reason I had got into making fangames. Considering that I initially made my Game Jolt account to follow the second game, it was like a dream come true to me when I was a kid to work with someone I at one point idolized. It's also crazy that at one point my work was gonna be connected to his games in some way.
One thing I'll definitely say is that I admire the community for having been able to keep the flame going for as long as it had, especially given that there's been no mainline game in the series from him since 2017. The fact that there's still so much for people to talk about with it, is so crazy to me that it continues to pass on through essentially new generations of the fangame scene.
Seeing video essays talking about it still from time to time is crazy, and it's definitely weird to sometimes hear my name get brought up in the whole thing. It's sometimes a bit surreal that I got to be involved in some way in a minor part of fangame history.
With all that being said, either if you wanna crack up at super cancer, the green guy slipping on a piece of soap, or observe it's very edgy and over the top storyline, I hope that TRTF will continue to live on for years to come. It's a time in fangame history that I don't think we'll ever relive again, but I'm glad I was there for it.
