🥪 Happy Heavy-O-Ween Devlog | Current progress 🎃


Hello everyone it’s Morx here to give you something I’ve been wanting to do for a while but couldn’t do due to not much of the game being complete but now I think I got a decent amount done for the time being. Before I go into this devlog I’ll like to say that at the moment I can’t work on HHOW since I’m busy with other things. Sorry about that.


Gameplay Progress

The progress on the gameplay is going smoothly at the moment. 3 out of the 4 rooms in HHOW are done for the most part (I might get someone to add more Halloween decorations to the rooms because I still feel that some rooms are semi empty). The cameras are done however I’ll need more people to help create character renders. Two of the AI are almost done, which are Heavy and the Spy. I’m beginning to code the trick or treaters AI and when I have the time I’ll code the third character. I also coded the treat meter but the trick or treaters AI will need to be completely coded in order for it to work. I also added two songs to the radio that will activate by rare chance including adding a rare ambience song that totally doesn’t mean anything. I also added the first easter egg to the game to which no spoilers ;) . The amount of progress I managed to accomplish for this game in the few time I have is incredible and something I have never done before nor thought I’ll be able to do. Despite that I still have a lot planned for that game specifically in terms of AI.


About the AI

When first conceiving this game I knew I didn’t want to make the standard style of FNaF AI. I have done that enough times already and I knew I would get bored if I coded the AI that way. So I decided to do something different both in the coding format of the AI and behavior. This is probably going to be my first game using an AI method I haven’t used before. I’ll use ticks for AI which is something I never had done before but so far it’s going really great for a first try and I have not encountered a problem with it. This means I can use less code for things like making sure the AI stops whenever you’re at the pause screen. In HHOW the AI will be controlled not only by the AI value you are all familiar with but also with another value which will be the AI intelligence. Intelligence will increase the odds of any random action the AI can do including for random actions exclusive to intelligence. Let’s just say the more you beat the AI the more tricks they’ll have up their sleeves for a certain amount of time ;) . The AI can also change directions / Walk backwards to find a different entrance to your home. They’ll do this if the entrance they’re trying to get through is failing them or at random which is uncommon. So far I have not coded the intelligence AI value in. It would be interesting to play with somewhat adaptive AI and I can’t wait to see the results of the completed AI in action. We’ll have to wait and see.

Assistance

Yes I do need help with the game at the moment. I currently have one person making character renders but unfortunately they’re busy with other things at the moment and if it’s only them then the pace of renders getting done will be pretty slow. I need a couple of more people to help create renders. So far the character renderer is using SFM to create renders but Gmod might do as well (Not sure if Blender will make things look out of place). The renders won’t need anything like detailed lighting (Will need plain lighting) as I’ll be editing that in. I also need people to help me edit images for HHOW as I’m too slow with things especially with editing images (Since it’s really my first try to edit images since ANaRC which was my first Scratch game). Right now I don’t need any help with programming the game (Sorry programmers). If you want to be a part of HHOW please send me a friend request or DM me on Discord (Discord tag: morilix07). The Present

Again right now at the moment I can’t work on the game (At least programming-wise) due to me having to focus on other things at the moment. I’m really enjoying making this game. It’s so fun to code so many absurd and silly things as well as showing these silly and absurd things to friends. Generally this game is getting a positive reaction compared to my last titles which is something I’ve never seen before. It gives me so much motivation to work on HHOW knowing that people are enjoying the silly concept of it which makes me happy to see. I’ll try to do the best I can with this game despite the time I have at the moment. I do have another release date planned for the game. Since I didn’t make the Halloween release date I have decided that in my way of saying thanks to all of the support this small silly game has gotten I’ll try to release it on Thanksgiving since in all honesty not a whole lot happens on Thanksgiving. It’s still a Halloween game btw but maybe there’s a chance of it being a Heavy-O-Ween game IDK.


The Future for HHOW

I’ve been thinking about the future of the game (If it releases). Even though this is just a passing thought, if HHOW does super well for what it is, I may consider doing TF2 style updates for the game. Sounds like a very fun idea to do considering that most FNaF Scratch fangames still don’t do large updates with meaningful additions.


That's HHOW devlog! I’ve been wanting to do this for a while since I love sharing progress of my games (since it keeps the FNaF Scratch community babies well fed. I don’t like being bothered about progress). There might be more devlogs coming in the future or not. It’s always good to write something huge once in a while. Anyways see y’all later and also be sure to keep your doors locked as this guy has been trying to enter my home for 4 minutes already.

Where?

I'm not able to use my PC at the moment so Heavy's is sorta on hold for now. Anyways have a room WIP it's the least I can do. Feel free to suggest Halloween objects.
