Here you will find answers to questions I receive most often about myself and Game Jolt. I will update this post as necessary.

Thank you for taking a look! Meow! •ᴧ•

If you have a question about site etiquette, moderation, or rules, I'd encourage you to first read Game Jolt's site guidelines before asking me. Thanks!

Questions About KniteBlargh

1-i
Q: Are you a cat?

A: Meow.

1-ii
Q: How is your name pronounced?

A: /ˈnītˌblär/ Basically, "Knite" sounds the same as "night," and "Blargh" rhymes with "car." Don't worry, though, I won't be offended if you pronounce it differently!

1-iii
Q: Are you part of Game Jolt staff?

A: I'm independent, but have a standing contract with Game Jolt.

1-iv
Q: Are you a mod?

A: No. I have not been a Game Jolt moderator since 2011, so I do not have access to moderation tools.

1-v
Q: What does "•ᴧ•" mean?

A: It's just a cute face I created with symbols to go along with my yellow cat mascot. My previous tag was boring, so I thought it would be fun to change it into a little creature!

1-vi
Q: What are your duties here at Game Jolt?

A: I have enjoyed many different responsibilities on Game Jolt over the years. In fact, way too many to list! However, I have primarily worked as a visual artist for the company since 2009, a job that has had me involved with palette creation, logo design, the Jolticons, mascots, contest banners, animations, and the list goes on! I also work as a copy editor by writing snippets of information for the site, or giving input on content that has been written by the rest of the team.

1-vii
Q: I appreciate something you've done. How can I show my support?

A: I'm in Game Jolt's creator program, so if you like my posts, you can support me by placing charged stickers on them! When you complete daily quests on GJ, you earn charge orbs. Once you have seven charge orbs, you can charge up a sticker after placing it. This gives me some of Game Jolt's ad revenue, and it's a huge help.

Another perk of being in the creator program is that I have my own shop where you can purchase animated cosmetic items like stickers, avatar frames, and post backgrounds. I'll be adding new items to the shop as time goes on.

Many have also kindly sent me friendly greetings, created fan art, given me shout-outs, followed me, let me know when they've liked my art, and have interacted with my silly posts. I appreciate all of this so much!

If you would like to support me monetarily outside of the creator program by donating or purchasing merch, you will find links to my Ko-fi and Redbubble accounts here.

1-viii
Q: Is it okay if I make a KniteBlargh fan community or cult?

A: While I'm touched by the fact that you appreciate me enough to consider doing something like this, I would rather you not. My reasons are explained to some extent here.

1-ix
Q: Will you accept my friend request?

A: First things first, I ask you to understand that I do read all messages sent to me (as long as my notifications are working), but I do not respond to chat messages. This is a personal restriction I had to place on myself so that I don't get too distracted from my work, otherwise I would end up chatting all day long.

I also check each user's profile before making a decision to see how well their content complies with Game Jolt's site guidelines.

If you have sent me a friend request and read the entirety of this section, send me a shout saying: "I have read section 1-ix!"

If I am unable to accept your friend request for some reason, please do not be disheartened, and realize that I am open to reconsidering at a future point in time.

1-x
Q: How many Speed Racer gifs do you have?

A: I currently have 447 Speed Racer gifs.

I've recently learned more about photosensitive epilepsy and have decided to check each gif in my collection to make sure they are as safe as possible and delete the ones that aren't. Once I'm finished with this process, I plan to continue making more Speed Racer gifs no one asked for.

1-xi
Q: What is the origin of the name KniteBlargh?

A: Years ago, my name was TheDisinheritedKnite, a name inspired by Walter Scott's novel Ivanhoe. Ivanhoe was a knight who was disinherited by his father. In the public eye, he disguised himself under the name Desdichado, which referred to his disinherited state, thus being called the disinherited knight. I really enjoyed the story, and could relate to that name on a somewhat personal level.

Years passed and people complained about my name being too long. Eventually, I decided to create a new social presence on The Indie Game Source. I wanted a name for game-related spaces that would be linked to my old one, but shorter. Knite was too short, and there were too many chances of it conflicting with other online personalities.

I have always had a low amount of energy, and something I got into the habit of doing around that time—as incredibly silly as it may be—was saying or typing "blargh" to my friends when I'd be particularly tired, when conversation would kind of fizzle, etc. Aha! I had it: KniteBlargh! I must have been pretty tired when I came up with that one...

1-xii
Q: Which art software do you use?

A: Digital painting: Clip Studio Paint (primary), ibisPaint, Krita and SAI Paint Tool
Pixel art: GIMP
Vector graphics: Inkscape

1-xiii
Q: Where can I download your brushes?

A: Currently only my custom ibisPaint brushes are public. You can find the QR codes for them here.

Questions About Game Jolt

2-i
Q: I have a question about Game Jolt. Should I ask you?

A: While I don't mind being asked questions and like to help where I can, there are many instances where I will either direct you to the question section of the Game Jolt community, or [email protected], so you may just end up deciding it's better and more efficient to go with either of those two routes instead.

2-ii
Q: Is there any specific number of followers or members that would guarantee verification of a user or community?

A: No.

2-iii
Q: No one can see my bio... What's going on?

A: Don't panic! This is just a hiccup that happens every now and then as a result of Game Jolt's spam detector encountering a false positive (unless your bio was actually full of spam LOL). This usually gets fixed pretty quickly, but if you're still having this issue a couple days after it first happened, simply send an e-mail to [email protected], preferably from the e-mail account associated with your Game Jolt account, and explain what you were planning on including in your bio. This will help the team to iron out the spam detection system as time goes on, and the appropriate staff will also unlock your bio for you.

2-iv
Q: The same offensive user keeps coming back! Can Game Jolt ban users by IP address?

A: Yes, Game Jolt has long had the ability to ban users by IP address. However, IP banning is not an end-all solution. This is not a problem that is unique to Game Jolt, but is an issue that spans the internet. Via the use of various workarounds such as VPNs that bypass blocked IPs, malicious users are able to create new accounts on websites from which they have been barred. This is why using Game Jolt's reporting feature is so important. Don't waste time spreading the news that someone is breaking rules. Slam that report button like you mean it!

2-v
Q: What was the concept behind Game Jolt?

A: Essentially, there wasn't really a place for indie game developers (I am including artists and casual hobbyists who contribute to game development in this category) of all different backgrounds to host and share their games while also enjoying a sense of community. It was usually one or the other (e.g. WillHostForFood was purely a hosting service for indie developers, and The Indie Game Source was an open community, but lacked any kind of file hosting), or the platform was dedicated to a specific engine or game creation tool (i.e. YoYo Games). Game Jolt set out to be more of an all-in-one option, but also with the friendly intention of co-existing with said other platforms/services.

However, the ideology behind Game Jolt was—and still is—more all-encompassing than simply filling the glaring need of a certain point in time. Over the years, the company has been trying to gradually expand its platform's functionality to accommodate, not just the needs of game developers, but also visual artists, musicians, gamers, streamers, writers, conversationalists, fan cultures, and the list goes on. Basically, Game Jolt is still very much a work-in-progress as it sets out to provide the tools its userbase requires, while extending its reach to a wide variety of interests.

If @CROS wants to add anything to this, he'll just have to write his own FAQs!

2-vi
Q: How do I get a custom tag on my profile?

A: Typically speaking, custom tags have been reserved for those who are working for Game Jolt or have done some work for Game Jolt in the past. Even then, not all those who have worked for Game Jolt have custom tags. As to whether this feature will be expanded upon in future or not, I do not know.

2-vii
Q: How do I remove Game Jolt Client?

A: The answer varies depending on which operating system you're using. That said, it's almost never a good idea to delete portions of an application that had to be installed on your system to begin with; this will not completely remove the installed software from your system, and certain effects from the software could linger as a result. To learn how to properly uninstall applications from your system, I would suggest googling something like "how to uninstall software from [insert your current OS here without brackets]" and look for a search result that comes from a trusted source.

2-viii
Q: How do I turn off notification pop-ups in Game Jolt Client?

A: Navigate to and click on your profile icon in the upper right corner of Client, then click on "settings." In the menu on the left, click "notifications," and then toggle off feed notifications.

2-ix
Q: How do I start a game page or upload a game?

A: There are multiple ways of adding a game, but one way is by navigating to the Store page from the top navigation bar, after which you will see a button that says "add your game" on the top right side of the page.

2-x
Q: Who made the little characters scattered around Game Jolt, and do they have names?

A: I did; I hope you like them! They do indeed have names! Here's a full list of Game Jolt's mascots:
PandaC
Kikkerstein
Judge Jelly
Greedy Grackle
Major Jolt
Jammin' Jemima
The Social Butterflies (Tim, Tam, and Tom)
Clyde Slicker
Vending Vance
Customer Carl
Consumer Candy
Ararat
Default Ninja
Farley Fungus
[???]
Robo Jolt 2000
[???]
Blobcat

... Well, that's a full list of all the classic and current mascots, but I wonder if there will be more at some point. Hmmm, I wonder.

2-xi
Q: May I use Game Jolt's mascots in fan creations?

A: Game Jolt loves seeing fan creations that include the mascots, so yes! However, do keep in mind that Game Jolt—as the legal owner of the mascots—will always have the right to make a final decision on whether or not a fan creation that includes the mascots presents their characters in an acceptable way.

2-xii
Q: How do stickers work?

A: Please see my sticker FAQ post and/or Game Jolt's documentation for answers to questions about stickers, sticker packs, charges, and supporting creators.

2-xiii
Q: What happened to firesides?

A: Here is a post that explains. Note that firesides may return some day if conditions are right.

New illustration for a friend.

Originally, I was going to make it a blue forest, but tried a warm yellow glow just to see what would happen, and fell in love with it, sooo... Maybe a blue forest will happen another time.

I've uploaded a collection of 74 hi-res printable illustrations, doodles, and renders I've made over on Gumroad.

You can download all of them for free by putting a 0 in the box and clicking "I want this!"

Enjoy!

Oh my gosh! Oh no! Oh my goodness!

Spoonflower had a pet doodle-themed pattern design challenge recently. I don't have any pets now, but I'd like to own some zebra finches; they're cute and they say "beep beep." So, I made this pattern of zebra finches wearing party hats.

: Krita

Wooooowwww! This is amazing, and an absolute steal at $10!

Y'all have no idea how much this game inspired me back in the day. It's a must-play for classic RPG fans, in my opinion. Awesome character design, music, worldbuilding, etc.

Alright, y'all. I could only handle being KnifeKniteBlargh for so long—I have returned to my normal self???

Also, new avatar frame made in Blender.

Also also, yes, new background made in Blender, as well.

Hope you're all doing great today!

Y'all, I'm so totally edgy. Call me KnifeBlargh.

Close-up of my Looking Sharp background after optimizing colours. Check the layer setup for an easy Krita workflow.

If you're struggling to achieve the <500kb file size, always remember: - Reduce colours Still too big? - Reduce motion -> Reduce colours
