hi so I was just playing around and made some visuals of how this game SHOULD look in my head that makes more sense than my words (read article below for game sillies)


OKAY SO LIKE we've experienced the first and third one where it goes from standing there to the cutscene slides that are all individual art pieces

but now.. the center one is in question and the style im working on the intermediate sprites for right now

and this format was all user error really i drew them in too small of a canvas and tried to cram all the detail into really big sprites but the overlapping was just so bad

I know I dont NEED this style to make it work but im gonna need some trust because im serious having it cut to just these closer portraits for really important scenes that dont need to be drawn out is a major quality of life than characters always standing far away, I really caught it a while back when I was coding a cassidy and william scene later in chapter 3 and they're having a big WE ARE THE NARRATIVE FOILS moment and it just felt SO stuff for them to be standing there between the silly angry sprites and annoyed sprites even if the poses were nice, and im going to test this exact scene (when I have cassidy) with these new sprites and I KNOW the improvement will be insane. I liked the concept of the really close up faces too like a ZOOM in but they also really didn't work with the backgrounds meant for characters standing there or being a bust shot

I almost have every single william done i did it all in 3 days 😭 I have about 55

my background scaling can also be a little funny so I hope this helps out a lot.. lol

I think remaking the sprite system was still one of the best decisions I ever made old vs new above

I still use those old sprites and Im really glad I made them because it helped me design outfits and important traits of each design but GODDDD
