high School Week Nº 6:

ㅤㅤThe gymkhana

MONDAY 18/03

ㅤㅤWhen class was almost ending, it started raining. The rain was initially weak, but got stronger and stronger as the time went on, to the point where, when my classmates went to the cafeteria for after class launch, it was practically a storm. I stayed at the library, as it was directly in front of the cafeteria. I was just going to wait for my classmates, but I decided to then look through the books they had suddenly a power outage occurred. With the intensity of the rain and the strength of the wind, leaves were flying and trees were falling from multiple spots of the school. After sometime, some of my classmates went to the library as well, but then the librarian told us to leave so it could be closed. The rain had calmed down a little at that point, although it was not near from stopping. The amount of the damage the rain has caused made it seem a hurricane has passed. Although, one of the areas of the school where we were supposed to be having classes in but were unable to due it needing special repair, as it is a historical monument of the city, was doing just fine.

TUESDAY 19/03

ㅤㅤThe school was still having a power outage because of the rain, but only in one area of it, of which was where the chemistry lab is at and where we were supposed to have most of the classes at.

ㅤㅤI was going to the library to renew the time I could have Aline: Adventures in Wonderland and Through the looking-glass and what Alice found there borrowed, but I had forgotten my library card home Monday, so I was forced to just give it back. I went back to the library to try borrowing it again, but because of the power outage they were unable to register that I borrowed the book and where I needed to return it. I was too busy with school work to read it, but I was curious to know what the Mock Turtle had to say to Alice...

ㅤㅤAt Portuguese class, the rain striked once again. It wasn't as intense, but it was still quite strong.

WEDNESS 20/03

ㅤㅤWe had our first actual Lab class this day. The procedure the teacher had us doing was just a pretty basic one that involved separating sand, salt at water using filters and evaporation, but I didn't end up being quite that easy. On our very first actual Lab class, where it wasn't merely a class dedicated to showing us the chemistry labs or tool and had us actually do something in the lab, there was already cases of glass breaking, samples being spilled and faulty machinery. On top of that, we had to take turns in order to measure the mass of the stuff the teacher told us to and, even after the whole class was divided into 2 labs and multiple groups, it was incredibly slow to do. I probably took ²/³ of the whole class in order for the group I was in to get done with the measurements and actually begin the separation process. While it half the class somehow got everything done and just had to wait for the water in the beakers with the salt and the wet filters with sand to evaporate, the other half didn't finish everything in time and had to put the water to evaporate after the class had ended. Since we still had to measure the mass of the salt after the evaporation and the dried filters with the sand and the evaporation would take a long time even in 150+ºC, the teacher told us we would have to measure them the next day.

ㅤㅤFor the past few weeks, there have been a discussion about a gymkhana that was going to take place in the school. The teams were separated into 5 groups based on the courses and were also tasked with creating a team name, a theme, a war cry, a mascot, a flag and choosing a color to represent the team. The chemistry team had settled on the theme of Minions and had purple as the main color, on top of having chosen a purple Minion, Dr. Nefarious and Vector as the mascots. I didn't contribute anything for the choices made by the team, as this is my first year, I barely know anyone outside my class and most of the choices were made by folks of the last year of high school. Although I, actually my mom, paid a small amount for the team uniform for the people who didn't have purple clothing, of which was just a giant purple clothing tissue cut into small and bland purple vest, with some having a "M" on them. Because the vests were very thin and weren't using them as actual vests, I wore mine as a scarf.

ㅤㅤOn the day of the gymkhana, the evening classes were all canceled and all of the students had to go to the school's sport section. I really didn't want to go, but I had as presence was mandatory. Arriving there, the chemistry team distributed the vest and everyone got inside. Everyone had to sign a list to confirm presence, and by everyone I mean everyone. There were tons of people in the same place, trying to get their hands on the only pen available to sign up their names on the list and go upstairs to the grandstand at once. The people in charge of the list later asked someone for another pen and I gave them my blue pen, hoping to speed things up. I end up losing a blue pen.

ㅤㅤAfter everyone was done signing the list, they headed upstairs and it was absolutely full of people. If the gymkhanas are this full, I can't wait to see what the school games and interclass games are going to look like. After some time passed, each team was called to present themselves to the others, showing their themes, flags, war cries and mascots. The teams end up being a bit simple, except for one that had the darn Mask as the theme and mascot. You know, The Mask, from the extremely gory comic that would get a kids movie adaptation starring Jim Carrey?

ㅤㅤAfterwards, all teams had to go downstairs so the gymkhana could begin. I stayed upstairs. Again, I didn't even want to be there. But then one of my classmates told the other classmates and me who were upstairs to go down.

ㅤㅤThe games were pretty simple, although I couldn't see much of them, as there was a massive crowd of people in front of me, but me and another classmate that was upstairs prior got wave the teams flag, so I wasn't being that useless.

One of the games end up being one where you had to balance an "egg" on a spoon and cross to the other side to give it to a teammate, so they could do the same until it has been passed enough times. The "egg" was actually just a rubber ball, probably because nobody bothered to actually clean any eggs off the ground. My classmates then instantly called me to participate in it because I've been known for my ability to stand completely still and balance things, as last week someone placed a rose on my head and I managed to keep it on top of my head from the cafeteria all the way to the classroom, which made them think I was great for the task.

Although I managed to cross the "egg" to the other side and pass it to another teammate without dropping it once, the person that was meant to pass it to me had dropped it quite a few times, which slowed down the whole thing quite a lot and we end up losing.

ㅤㅤIn the end, the chemistry team would only manage to win in only two games, which practically meant nothing. But I at least got out of the sports section with a red flag from another team. Would probably have gotten another, but I already got enough red flags, although most of them aren't physical.

THURDAY 21/03

ㅤㅤWe had a Math test this day and despite not knowing about it I wasn't that worried, as I felt like what we've been studying in Marh has been quite easy to understand. I expected it to be a simple and easy test, but instead end up learning that Math test are the quickest way to learn you are a braindead idiot. I was literally the last person to finish the test and I'd probably have taken 6 and a half hours to simply understand what I had to do in last 3 questions of it if Math class hasn't ended.

ㅤㅤAt evening, yet another power outage has occurred, on top of that the water had ran out, which resulted in us getting dismissed 5 and a half hours early than we were supposed to.

FRIDAY 22/03

ㅤㅤThe results for the gymkhana were published this day and apparently the team who theme almost no one knew, whose war cry almost no one heard, whose mascot was just someone in a Batman mask and black clothing and whose flag was just the team's name in a black background, was the team that won 1st or 2nd place in theming, war cry, mascot and flag design. Some of the other teams also got some questionable scores, like the ones who had The darn Mask as their mascot getting a zero as the score for the mascot. The chemistry team got all zeros on theming, war cry and flag design, but got a few points from the games the team won... which were almost all subtracted because there was a special grade based on the amount of waste cause by the team that would reduce the total amount of points obtained by the team.

ㅤㅤWe had a Physics pairs tests and, despite being the part of the only people who did it in thirds, I felt like I got only a question right in it, max. I didn't find it as difficult as the Math test, but it sure was, which was made more difficult because I had to work with 2 more people that were finding different answers from one another. At least the teacher was kind enough to not only write the formulas we were supposed to memorize on the classroom's white board before the test but also explain what we were supposed to be doing in the exercises we were having trouble in. Even if I somehow manage to become a Physics monitor, I doubt I'd be able to teach and help students as easily and efficiently as the Physics teacher. Anyway, this time I wasn't the last to finish the test, I was the penultimate.

Sorry for any potential spelling or grammatical mistakes

I would like to correct the mistake I did in high School Week Nº 4. The number of teacher that know about Super Negative isn't 2. It's actually 4 teachers. I deeply apologize for the inconvenience.

Been recently getting really afraid of someone from the school finding out I write these. Not sure what would happen, but I really don't want to find out. I really, really avoid mentioning anyone in these and when I do is often in a way that the person cannot be recognized, with some exceptions like her and my best friend, who I still avoid mentioning stuff that's too personal. On top of that, the events I mention are so specific that anyone studying in the school could recognize and, even if they don't know me, figure it's a student who has been writing these.
