Hot Take: The reason Kyogre and Groudon fighting is catastrophic isn't just because it causes cataclysmic weather, but because Kyogre would WIN.

Rayquaza is summoned pretty hastily, so we don't get to see the result of their battle, but in Emerald, Kyogre lured the ever-impatient brute Groudon into its territory, trapping it on the small island in the middle of the water, and seemingly had it on the ropes. If the funny sky snake didn't show up then, Kyogre would've beaten Groudon and flooded the world.
